Recently released The Challenge Season 40 Episode 5 featured a double elimination, which no one expected. The latest episode 5, released on September 18, 2024, saw Emily Schromm and Chris "CT" Tamburello being eliminated from The Challenge Season 40: Battle of the Eras.
Both Emily and CT have been quite the "big" names when it comes to their history with the show. Among participants and The Challenge enthusiasts, Emily has been considered to be one of the most experienced female participants. On the other hand, CT, as fans already know, is a five-time winner.
In The Challenge Season 40 Episode 5, Emily competed against Tina Barta whereas in the Men's game, CT was up against Nehemiah Clark. Even though the final elimination challenge, "Getting Hammered" seemed quite straightforward, such experienced names from the show were not expected to get eliminated.
The official synopsis for the fifth episode of The Challenge Season 40 reads,
"An exhausting challenge leaves an era questioning one of their own, while another era can't get on the same page. A long-standing rivalry between two teammates comes to a head and erupts and champions collide in a nail-bitin."

The Challenge Season 40 Episode 5: Elimination task explored
The elimination task, "Getting Hammered" took place later in the fifth episode, which saw Emily Schromm from Era 2 against Tina Barta of Era 2, in the women’s round. For the men's elimination round, Chris "CT" Tamburello from Era 1 went up against Nehemiah Clark of Era 2.
As the task was explained, it seemed quite simple and easy to be carried out. Participants were supposed to remove a total of 100 nails from a plant and after they complete it, hammer 100 nails into a different plank.
Participants who manage to do this before their competitors and press the buzzer will emerge victorious and safe from the upcoming elimination.
The women's round was up first, which featured Tina taking the lead. With her strategy, Tina removed all the nails before Emily could reach further. Before Emily started hammering her nails, Tina was already halfway through her 100 nails hammering on the second plank.
To everyone's surprise, Tina completed the task way before Emily and soon hit the button. It resulted in Emily's elimination while Tina won the task. Later, on The Challenge Season 40, Tina also mentioned how she visits "Home Depot" more often than any grocery store.
For the men's round, Tina's strategy didn’t work, and both CT and Nehemiah started the task in their unique ways. In an intense competition between the two, Nehemiah was the first one to get all the nails out and then hammered, compared to CT’s timings.
Despite having all the experience on the show, and all the Pro Tips that CT shares, he had to go home.
As a result of the elimination round on The Challenge Season 40 Episode 5, Emily Schromm (Era 2) and Chris "CT" Tamburello (Era 1) went home while Tina Barta from Era 1 and Nehemiah Clark from Era 2 continued their journey on the show.
