The Boys Season 5 is one of the most awaited shows that's under filming. Fans were shocked to learn when it was revealed last year that the fifth season of the gritty Prime Video series will be its final one. But that doesn't mean that fans can't have more from this gritty superhero universe. In March 2022, fans were happy to watch the first The Boys spin-off, The Boys Presents: Diabolical.
Diabolical is an animated anthology series that's eight episodes long. Of the eight episodes, only three (6, 7, and 8) were regarded as canonical. Then, a year later, in September 2023, the second The Boys spin-off, Gen V, streamed its first season. Gen V is set in the same universe as The Boys, and the events from the spin-off affect the main show and vice versa.
However, these are the only spin-offs coming from this universe.
The Boys spin-offs in work despite the fifth season:
Prime Video's The Boys is expanding, much to the surprise of fans. Here are the four spin-offs of the acclaimed and fan-favorite Prime Video series that you can possibly enjoy even after the fifth season:
- The Boys Presents: Diabolical
As stated before, this The Boys spin-off consists of eight episodes, some of which are set in the same universe as the main show that began back in 2019, i.e., canonical. Showrunner Eric Kripke, the finale, "One Plus One Equals Two," is one of the canonical episodes. He said:
“The finale is canon, yeah. I thought he [Diabolical showrunner Simon Racioppa] did such a good job with it. I don’t think we had any specific plans going in for it to for sure be canon. But he just did such a good job writing and directing it, that watching it, I was like, ‘This is for sure what happened.’”
While the anthology animated series was acclaimed, a second season hasn't been officially confirmed. While producer Seth Rogen, who has also cameoed in the series, told Collider in 2022, there are some scripts for a second season, but it hasn't been green-lit yet. Here's what he said:
"I hope 'Diabolical' comes back. Actually, they bought some scripts for the next season, so we've been writing them. We're not 100% sure they will produce them, but if everything goes as planned, they will produce the scripts that we are writing right now."
- The Boys: Mexico
A November 2023 Deadline report revealed that a spin-off of the show set in Mexico was under development. Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, the writer behind 2023's Blue Beetle, is involved in this series, and currently, the makers are still searching for a co-showrunner. The series boasts of being executive produced by actors Gael García Bernal (Werewolf by Night) and Diego Luna (Andor).
It is believed that these actors would also be involved in the series in front of the camera, but not in significant roles. However, it must be noted that the movement on this series is a bit slow because the last update on this series came in May 2024. Eric Kripke sat down for an interview with Entertainment Weekly in which he confirmed that the show will take some time by saying:
"They are still making the deal with the writer for the pilot. He has an amazing pitch, and we all giggle and think about how fun it would be. But there are a lot of hurdles for that show before it's a real show. He's got to write an amazing pilot, he's probably got to write an amazing episode 2. I think he can and he will, but we're a while away from truly starting to drop in the Easter eggs and the setups and stuff."
- Gen V
The first season of Gen V streamed on Prime Video between September 29, 2023, and November 3, 2023. However, it was already renewed for Season 2 just a day before the sixth episode of Season 1 streamed on Prime Video. The first Season tied directly into the fourth season of The Boys, and it is expected that Gen V Season 2 will tie into the fifth Season, which is currently filming.
It is also important to note that Chance Perdomo, who played Andre Anderson, would not be recast for the second season after the 27-year-old British actor's tragic passing due to a motorcycle crash in March 2024. The makers behind the series confirmed it through this statement:
For now, there are two confirmed seasons of Gen V. Even Kripke expressed hope in continuing the series after the conclusion of the fifth season of the main series.
- Vought Rising
The latest spin-off of The Boys was confirmed at the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con. It was confirmed that Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy and Aya Cash's Stormfront will be returning to the series. It is also possible that this series may also involve a younger version of Black Noir that we saw between Seasons 1 and 3 and even Stan Edgar. Eric Kripke described the series like this to the Comic-Con panel:
“We are excited to bring you the next deranged series from the world of ‘The Boys'”. It’s a twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy, and the diabolical maneuvers of a supe known to fans as Stormfront, who was then going by the name Clara Vought. We cannot wait to blow your minds and trouble your souls with this salacious, grisly saga drenched in blood and Compound V.”
Given all these spin-offs, it is safe to assume that The Boys franchise isn't going anywhere.
