Shark Tank investor Kevin O'Leary recently discussed the tariff issues and referred to it as a "negotiation" while on CNN. In his April 17, 2025, Instagram clip, the O'Leary Ventures chairman shared his thoughts on the ongoing tariffs and related issues between the US and China.
While discussing that, the Shark Tank mentor mentioned that no other administration has "ever tried" such a negotiation involving more than 60 countries. For that, he mentioned Europeans, Canadians, Mexicans, Taiwan and more. However, his focus was on China, as he stated it was the "big deal."
"No administration has ever tried to negotiate 60+ countries at once and that's one basket. The Europeans, the Mexicans, the Canadians, I get it, you know, Taiwan, whatever it is. But the big deal here is China. That's the behemoth. We're the biggest market," said Kevin O'Leary.
Shark Tank's Kevin O'Leary shares his views on tariffs, inflation, and more
During his recent appearance on CNN, Shark Tank investor Kevin O'Leary faced the question about "higher inflation" and "slower growth." Recalling the Chair of the Federal Reserve of the United States, Jerome Powell's statement, the CNN representative stated that it was a "recipe for stagflation."
Responding to that, Kevin O'Leary stated:
"He (Jerome Powell) doesn't know that yet because like everybody else, he doesn't know how long this tariff, let's call it negotiation is going to go on for. He would be right if this lasted years. I doubt it's going to happen that way."
He then stated a few facts including the midterms, which are after 18 months. Hence, Donald Trump "can't have" such a situation "on his back" during the midterms. Because there is a significant risk of losing the majority.
For that, he would need to "resolve" the tariff situation "quickly." Kevin mentioned that they were going at a "breakneck speed."
Shark Tank investor stated that negotiating with 60+ countries is something that no other administration has "ever tried." Among all the countries, China, according to him, was the "big deal." He referred to the country as the "behemoth."
Further in his discussion on CNN, Kevin O'Leary stated that everyone is aware of products that "go" to the U.S., which are "made in China." Hence that was something to keep an eye on.
"They know it so much of what's made in China goes to the United States and so that's really the one to focus on. I think the rest is a sideshow because it's going to get resolved, probably equivalent tariffs or no tariffs at all. But the China deal, that's a big deal."
Referring to the rest of the countries, Kevin stated it was a "sideshow." He added their issues would be "resolved" with equivalent tariffs or "no tariffs."
