What is Suits LA?

Unlike its predecessor, which followed high-stakes corporate law, Suits LA will explore the world of entertainment law, dealing with high-profile celebrities, scandals, and industry power struggles.

Amell plays Ted Black, a skilled and charismatic lawyer who left his past as a prosecutor behind to build a new life in LA. While he’s brilliant in the courtroom, his personal life is complicated, especially when it comes to his relationship with his father.

One of the biggest surprises of Suits LA is the casting of Matt Letscher as Ted Black’s father. Fans of the Arrowverse will recognize Letscher as Reverse-Flash, the archenemy of Barry Allen in The Flash. However, this time, he’s taking on a very different role, as a powerful yet emotionally distant father who has a strained relationship with Ted.

TVLine recently shared two exclusive images from the Suits LA premiere that give us a glimpse of the tension between Ted and his father:

According to the official character description, Ted’s father is “powerful, emotionally unavailable, and rules through fear and intimidation.” He has a history of treating Ted’s brother, Eddie, poorly, leading to a major rift between him and Ted.

Even though he has done things that are hard to forgive, Ted’s father still wants a relationship with his son. But Ted? He’s not interested.

Showrunner Aaron Korsh has drawn comparisons between Ted Black’s strained relationship with his father and Suits’ original protagonist, Harvey Specter, who had a complicated relationship with his mother.

He explained:

“Harvey had a difficult relationship with his mother, and Ted has a difficult relationship with his father, just because I think people’s relationships with their parents inform their world so much, and it’s a lot easier to have a character that has a flawed relationship with their parents than a positive one. So Ted’s dad is somewhat of a narcissist, and he sort of left their family high and dry when they were young, and [Ted] always sort of resents his father for that. And then when Ted went to law school and started becoming successful, all of a sudden, he was good enough for his father’s attention, and he doesn’t love that.”

How did this Arrowverse reunion happen?

Even though both Amell and Letscher were part of the Arrowverse, they never actually met while working on Arrow and The Flash. Moreover, Letscher revealed during the Suits LA premiere’s red carpet event that this was their first time working together.

While Suits LA is set in the same universe as Suits, it will introduce an entirely new cast. However, given the franchise’s history, we can’t rule out guest appearances from original Suits characters.
