Academy Award-nominated actor Michael Fassbender is returning to television after 16 years with The Agency. The Showtime spy thriller series follows a CIA agent who is asked to drop his mission and return to London.
Produced by George Clooney and Grant Heslov, the show is inspired by the French series Le Bureau des Légendes, which ran for five seasons between 2015 and 2020. The original show chronicled the lives and careers of DGSE agents.
However, the creators of The Agency have added a fresh take to the story by basing it around the undercover life of CIA agent Martian. The show is all set to be released on Paramount+ with Showtime on November 29, 2024.
What is the release date of The Agency?
The Agency will premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime on Friday, November 29, 2024. The first two episodes of the series will be released together on the premiere day. Viewers outside the US, who have access to Paramount+, can watch the show a day later on Saturday, November 30, 2024.
What is the plot of The Agency?
The show tells the story of a CIA agent named Martian, who has to leave his mission and undercover life to report to his London station. Things take a turn for the agent when he learns that his former lover, who he broke up with for a mission, is in London too.
As he sparks a romance with his ex once again, his personal and professional lives get at loggerheads with each other. Martian eventually gets embroiled in a web of international espionage. The official synopsis for the show reads:
“Martian is a covert CIA agent, ordered to abandon his undercover life and return to London Station. When the love he left behind reappears, romance reignites. His career, his real identity, and his mission are pitted against his heart—hurling them both into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage.”
The official trailer for the series was released in October 2024, which further teases what to expect from the show. Martian seems to be a skilled agent, but things go out of his control as he tries to balance his secret life, his mission, and his love for his girlfriend, who gets to know the truth about his work.
