Shark Tank investor Kevin O'Leary has often expressed his admiration for watches. He promotes all types of watches on various social media platforms through interviews and podcasts. Those who know about Kevin's obsession with collecting all sorts of watches would be aware that he carries a watch on both of his wrists.
When one has his toes so deep in something, expert advice is welcomed, and such is the case with Mr. Wonderful. During an interview with Time Plus Tide, an independent watch collection site, Kevin O'Leary opened up about the commandments of collecting watches, and one of them was, "Buy big when you get into a brand."
Investing in branded watches is about much more than just acquiring a single piece; it’s a commitment that demands passion and persistence. As Kevin O'Leary from Shark Tank puts it, connecting with watch brands is essential. For him, it goes beyond mere interest; it’s about building lasting relationships.
After all, for this Canadian businessman, watches represent more than just a hobby; they are a significant part of his lifestyle and identity. Emphasizing the same, Kevin mentioned in the Time Plus Tide interview:
"When I buy a maison, I always buy two, up to four sometimes. So when I entered into F.P. Journe I bought four watches at once, just to establish myself in that space and also show the maison how serious I was about supporting a brand. That’s not common. But that’s my philosophy of getting into a new maison.”
Here is how the Shark Tank judge Kevin O'Leary gets his watch customized for television appearance
Shark Tank judge and watch connoisseur Kevin O'Leary wears a specific color band with his watch dials when he is recording for television to maintain the continuity of the shoot. Those who have noticed enough of Kevin's television appearances would know about the famous red band.
However, getting his watches customized is a meticulous process, and he has huge regard and respect for the manufacturers of the watches. During the interview with Time Plus Tide, Kevin mentioned he often gets a roadblock in getting his watch strap customized until he explains his unique situation to the manufacturers.
The Shark Tank investor also added that he does not like to intervene in the artistry of the manufacturers. He further mentioned how he likes to have a red strap customized for his watches. Upon talking about getting approached by brands for any "Kevin O'Leary" piece, he said:
" I might do it. I don’t know. It’s one thing that might be fun, but I respect the artistry of the manufacturer too much. I mean, these watches are pieces of art.”
