"That's become his life": When Titus Welliver shared key details about his Bosch: Legacy character arc

Titus Welliver, who portrays the role of former LAPD detective Harry Bosch in Prime Video’s hit procedural drama series Bosch: Legacy, shared that his character has evolved since Bosch. The series follows Harry after he has retired from the force and now works as a private investigator.

While speaking to FabTV about Harry’s character moving from a detective to a private investigator, Welliver said,

“...That’s sort of the blessing and the curse for Harry because you know…his entire adult life has been in the service of other people… in the military and in the law enforcement and that’s become his life. And now he doesn’t have a master to serve anymore. And so we find him because he is so relentless and it’s what he does to help people but it’s not like he’s got jobs piled up on his desk...”

He continued,

“So, he’s kind of lost and you would think that because his daughter was a cop that he would be living this vicarious thrill but it’s not. Obviously, you know he knows what the job is, he knows what can happen. And he wants her to have this, her independence, but he also realizes that the implications are also difficult for her, coming along in his shadow having been this… renowned LAPD detective but also a guy who made a lot of enemies in the department…It’s a lot of great dynamics dramatically for us to play. It is not a spinoff, it is a continuation with a different focus.”

Borch: Legacy is based on the bestselling books by Michael Connelly. The series is a sequel to Bosch on Prime Video. Borch: Legacy, which is currently in the middle of its third season has an ensemble cast including Titus Welliver, Mimi Rogers, Madison Lintz, Stephen Chang, Denise G. Sanchez and Alex Loynaz.

Harry Bosch plays the titular role in the show. In Bosch, Harry is a Los Angeles Police Department detective investigating cases with his own moral code in place. In Bosch: Legacy, the detective has retired and has taken on the new role of private investigator who works for Honey Chandler, a defense lawyer. His daughter Madeline Bosch is also starting a career in the police force.

Titus Welliver portrays the role of Harry Bosch in the Prime Video series. About his character he said,

“I love Harry. I am very, very protective of Harry. If I was going to be another person in the universe, I would put Harry at the top of my list...He’s a solid guy, he’s got a flawless moral compass, he lives his life in the service of others.”

About writing the character of Harry Bosch, Michael Connelly shared on his official website,

“Harry is not based on one cop in particular. He is an amalgamation of several real cops I knew as a police reporter, plus aspects of fictional detectives — from both books and movies — that I have loved.”
