Barbara Corcoran and Kevin O'Leary's healthy banter has been one of the highlights of Shark Tank US. Whether they are vying for a deal or teasing each other on social media platforms, the duo's witty responses serve the perfect entertainment quotient.
During Season 11 of Shark Tank aired in 2020, Emily Strauss presented her company, Mural Painter Inc., and asked for $300,000 for 15% equity. The company used large-scale mural painting for residential and commercial clients, helping them in outdoor advertising but with a hint of art and creativity.
Emily's confident pitch, full of enthusiasm, and confetti throwing was one of the presentation's highlights. Emily wanted to build an app that would bring artists and customers under one roof from all across the US to help them collaborate. For that, Emily wanted investment and guidance from the sharks.
While all five sharks loved Emily's idea, Mark, Lori, and Daymond had reasons to opt out. However, Mr. Wonderful loved Emily's vibe and offered $300k for 35% of the equity. Barbara came in to throw in her perspective and suggested Emily to focus on expanding her client market.
Barbara was willing to offer Emily a deal and said:
"I do want to make you an offer, just so you don't get in bed with this creepy guy cuz that would be a mistake, cuz there's nothing he could do for your business."
What happened with Mural Painter Inc. in Shark Tank Season 11?
Shark Tank investor Barbara Corcoran hijacked Kevin's offer for Mural Painter Inc. and suggested that Emily is going to have a better offer from her. Barbara prepared a hybrid offering, giving $100k as cash and the rest $200k as a line of credit for the extant equity offered by Emily, that is, 15%. Barbara wanted the offer to make sense for the Evaluation Emily offered, alongside having a profitable deal.
Kevin on the other hand remarked that "there is only one Mr. Wonderful", and decided to stick to his offer. Emily asked Barbara about how she would be willing to contribute as a partner and what her plan of action was. Barbara had certain things in mind and said:
"I think what you have to do is give more depth to your sales line. You're all over the place from what you said. I think you're mostly an administrator at this point, what a waste of your talent."
Emily resonated with what Barbara had to say, and after a minute of contemplation, she passionately shouted, "Barbara, you have a deal."
