Tell Me Lies, the Hulu original series, is set in 2007 at Baird College, a fictional Upstate New York institution, and deals with the turbulent romantic relationship between college junior Stephen DeMarco and college freshman Lucy Albright, spanning over eight years.

This brilliantly sleek and twisted series is based on a bestselling 2018 novel by Carola Lovering and is adapted for television by Meaghan Oppenheimer, who is also credited as the showrunner and executive producer. Oppenheimer was also the creator of the 2018 Catherine Zeta-Jones starrer series Queen America, which premiered on Facebook Watch.

Tell Me Lies is produced by Karah Preiss and Emma Roberts, along with Matt Matruski, under the banner of Belletrist Productions.

Tell Me Lies is officially set to return after two years on September 4. The acclaimed and addictive romantic drama series is coming back with its second season and will have a two-episode premiere with weekly episodes dropping every Wednesday for the remaining six episodes.

If the finale of season 1 is any indication, season 2 will be more dramatic and tense with a lot of emotionally overwhelming moments in store for the audience. Although there are many unresolved plot points in season 1 that are to be resolved in the new season, fans are most curious about how Stephen and Lydia came to be engaged in the 2015 timeline.

Additionally, in the 2007 timeline, after Lucy learns about Stephen dating Diana in the season 1 finale, there will likely be some jealous comeback from Lucy, which might have serious consequences in the new season.

Tell Me Lies season 2 promises more drama. The second season will focus on Stephen and Lucy’s toxic relationship and also bring into focus how it impacts their inner circle of friends. The official logline of the new season reads:

Yet while very much at odds, they find themselves in a new version of their addictive dynamic – which is as infuriating as it is inescapable. Meanwhile, the story expands deeper into the lives of Lucy and Stephen’s friend group, as the fallout from season 1 impacts all of their lives in unexpected ways.

Delving deeper into the intricacies of the new season, Oppenheimer mentioned that everything happening this season will be completely new. The makers have planned to delve deeper into the lives of the characters, and thus, each one will have richer and more emotionally charged storylines.

She also mentioned that they have taken more risks in the second season when it comes to storylines. This season will have plot points that are neither black nor white, but rather gray, which makes it both scary and exciting.
