Bree learns the secret behind Oliver and Marianne's marriage in Tell Me Lies finale
In the 2008 timeline, Bree is having an affair with her married professor Oliver. This was after she discovered that her boyfriend Evan had a one-night stand with another woman.
To break Oliver up with his wife Marianne, she leaves her earrings in his shirt pocket, hoping his wife will find them and leave him. Instead, Marianne finds them and, thinking they are for her, wears them. Oliver is upset with Bree for trying to sabotage his marriage.
A heartbroken Bree decides to continue seeing Oliver even if she would have to 'share' him with his wife. This reconciliation happens at Oliver's home, where the two sleep together while Marianne is away. But just as Bree is about to leave, Marianne returns.
Bree is scared, thinking Marianne would be angry seeing her sleeping with her husband. Rather, Bree is shocked to learn about the truth of their marriage. It looks like Marianne knew about Bree and Oliver's relationship from the beginning. Oliver reveals that their marriage is open and they are free to pursue other people while married.
This revelation leaves Bree shocked and betrayed because all this time, she is guilt-ridden by the fact that she is pursuing a forbidden relationship with her married professor.
Stephen's revenge on Evan in the Tell Me Lies finale
If somebody got the timing right in the Tell Me Lies Season 2 finale, it is definitely Stephen. One of the secrets Evan hid throughout this season was his one-night stand with Lucy while he was with Bree. While he confesses to cheating on her, he does not mention that it was with one of her best friends, Lucy.
After Stephen's confession about Drew and Wrigley forgiving him, Evan decides to come clean with Stephen, too, only forgetting that Stephen is no Wrigley. While Stephen doesn't break up with Lucy, he also forgives Evan 'that day'.
But Stephen, being Stephen, always chooses the right moment to get his revenge. Fast-forward to 2015, when Evan is waiting at the altar to marry Bree. Stephen sends her a message. The message contains a recording of Evan confessing to having slept with Lucy while he was still with Bree. Stephen kept this secret for eight years only to reveal it at the right moment.
Diana finally breaks up with Stephen for good in Tell Me Lies finale
While Lucy cannot seem to keep herself away from Stephen, Diana finally understands how toxic he is and gets rid of him for good. While her multiple attempts to break up with him are in vain, she devises a clever plan to force him to break ties with her.
From the past couple of episodes, we have seen how Diana was vocal with Stephen about her faltering relationship with her father. We also learn that her father has cut off her credit card, and she has also performed poorly on her LSAT scores, risking her career.
It turns out that Diana had planned to make Stephen break up with her all along. Diana did all this to give Stephen the idea that he didn’t need her anymore. She had aced her LSATs and blocked her credit card.
All this worked out for the best, as Stephen broke up with Diana, and she got rid of him forever.
