Political thriller Tehran Season 3 was released in Israel on Kan 11 on December 9, 2024. The spy thriller created by Moshe Zonder debuted on Kan 11 in June 2020. Soon, it was made available to the international audience on Apple TV+ in September 2020.
It follows an undercover Mossad agent on her first mission in Iran, following the political tensions between Iran and Israel.
Since then, Apple TV+ has been the official Global partner to stream the show internationally. However, the show was scheduled to premiere its Season 3 in April 2024, but was delayed due to the ongoing Gaza War.
While Kan 11 released Season 3 in Israel in December 2024, Apple TV+ has yet to set a premiere date for the International audience.
More on Tehran Season 3 in our story.
Why is Tehran Season 3 delayed on Apple TV+?
While the Israeli audience watched Tehran Season 3 on Kan 11, International audiences were unable to stream the third chapter. The show was originally scheduled to release on Apple TV+ in April 2024 but the escalation of tensions due to the Gaza War led to its delay.
The conflicting tensions between Israel and Hamas-led Palestinian militant groups led the network to rethink its decision to release Tehran on Apple TV+. Since the show is a political thriller that follows high-stakes espionage between Iran and Israel, its content was a little too close to real-life incidents.
Since Apple is a global tech giant, it is being cautious before premiering politically charged content as it can spark controversy and lead to more conflict. Apple TV+ has been tight-lipped about the Season 3 release, and it is difficult to say when the show will be available for International audiences.
Since Season 3 was strategically delayed due to geopolitical reasons, it is difficult to predict when the show will be available on the network.
Who is in the cast of Tehran Season 3?
Tehran Season 3 will see the return of Niv Sultan as Tamar Rabinya, a Mossad agent and a computer hacker. After the events of Season 2, her high-stakes mission will become even more dangerous as she now works against IRGC agents and Mossad.
Shaun Toub and Shila Ommi will also return as Faraz Kamali and Nahid respectively. Since Shervin Alenabi's Milad likely died in the Season 2 finale, he might not return for Season 3.
The third chapter will also see some new faces, including Hugh Laurie as Eric Peterson. Laurie is best known for his performances in All the Light We Cannot See, Catch-22, The Night Manager and many more. He is a main cast member in Season 3, who plays a South African nuclear inspector convinced that Iran is preparing a nuke.
Other new additions include Phoenix Raei and Gabai as Ramin Rasmi and Nissan the 'Owl' respectively. Bahar Pars will also join Season 3.
What can you expect from Tehran Season 3?
Tehran Season 3 will see a major shift in power in Tamar's mission. Picking up right from the events of the Season 2 finale, where Milad was killed and Tamar was left in Iran with nobody to trust, the third chapter will be high-stakes for her.
Season 3 will see Tamar turning on both the IRGC agents and Mossad, who have decided to kill her. Since she went against their direct orders and killed Qasem Mohammadi in Season 2, she will have to face the consequences.
In addition, the introduction of Eric Peterson will bring a new layer and it would be interesting to see what turn Tamar's story takes in Season 3. She will also continue to battle between her personal life and her identity as an undercover agent in the latest chapter.
