Ted Lasso Season 4: A complete recap of Season 3 as the upcoming season is reportedly confirmed

Ted Lasso is all set for season 4, and fans of this sports comedy-drama cannot wait. Developed by Jason Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly, this series is about Ted Lasso, an American college football coach who has no prior experience in the sport when he is hired to lead an English soccer team, AFC Richmond.

Rebecca Welton owns the team. She has a motive behind hiring Ted as the team’s coach. Her ex-husband loved the team and prioritized it over their marriage. Hence, she has a vendetta against him and wants the team to fail to spite him. However, her plan doesn’t work out, as Ted wins over everyone with his optimistic attitude and kind nature. He even manages to win over Rebecca.

Ted Lasso first aired in August 2020. Ever since, it has garnered appreciation for its feel-good energy, humorous writing, and heartwarming storyline. The cast has delivered award-winning performances, especially by Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, and Brett Goldstein.

With season 4 knocking on the door, here's a quick recap of season 3 to get you back on track with the series.

Ted Lasso Season 3: Ted’s search for happiness and Rebecca’s self-discovery

Fans went on a wild ride with Ted Lasso Season 3. It was full of emotional depth and a surprising twist. It felt like the showrunners wanted each character, major or minor, to have their own story arc.

In Ted Lasso Season 3, Ted (Jason Sudeikis) is still the coach of AFC Richmond but struggles with his personal problems. He finds it difficult to accept his ex-wife’s relationship with their former couples’ therapist, Dr. Jacob. He also finds it hard to stay away from Henry, his son.

But he remains focused on the sport, experiencing both highs and lows. Richmond is joined by the famous Zava, who brings a winning streak to the team. This season, we also see his relationship with Nate improving.

However, the standout episode of the season is “Mom City.” In this episode, Ted’s mother unexpectedly visits him. We see Ted’s unresolved grief over his father's su*cide come to the surface, creating more depth to Ted's character.

Ted's journey in Ted Lasso Season 3 reflects on the fact that even the most optimistic person can have rough days. Throughout the season, Ted tries to figure out what makes him happy.

From a woman who was initially consumed by anger and revenge, Rebecca grows into a compassionate leader, friend, and woman. Her emotional journey is about rediscovering herself, finding forgiveness, and not being afraid of vulnerability.

In Ted Lasso Season 3, Rebecca’s personal life is more introspective. She visits Tish, the psychic who tells her that she will become a mother. Though she dismisses this, she has some hope of it. So, she visits a fertility clinic only to find out she cannot conceive.

On a journey to discovering herself, Rebecca experiences one of the most intriguing moments during the team's trip to Amsterdam. She meets a man who profoundly impacts her despite their brief connection.

Later, towards the end of the season, when she meets Ted at the airport, she meets the man from Amsterdam again. But this time, along with his daughter.


Jamie and Roy’s personal growth

In Ted Lasso Season 3, Jamie Tartt has his redemption arc. He shows a lot of personal growth and is no longer a selfish player. Initially, he is jealous of Zava, the famous but cocky player.

But this works to his advantage as he starts working harder and improving. He gets Roy Kent as his mentor. Jamie’s growth as a player and as a person becomes one of the season’s highlights.

In Ted Lasso Season 3, Roy Kent adapts to his new role as a coach. He mentors Jamie and helps him improve his game and regain confidence in himself. This does not just benefit Jamie; it also helps Roy grow as a person.

He becomes more patient and supportive. His romantic relationship with Keeley is turbulent throughout the season. He is unable to balance his independence and vulnerability. He is seen reflecting on his life as a player and growing into someone who understands the need to balance his passion and personal life.


Nate’s redemption and Keeley’s resilience

Perhaps one of the most complicated storylines of Ted Lasso Season 3 is Nate’s. He starts off as a negative character but experiences redemption and an emotional journey along the way.

He betrays Ted and Richmond but later shows regret about leaving the team. Throughout the season, he struggles with his decisions. He bonds with Jade, quits West Ham, and then starts working at the restaurant A Taste of Athens.

By the end of the season, Nate apologizes to Ted and is back with Richmond. Later, he puts the “Believe” sign back in the locker room with Roy and Beard.

In Ted Lasso Season 3, Keeley Jones has a surprising arc. She starts her PR firm but finds it difficult to run it. So, she hires her friend, but it makes things worse as the CFO, Barbara, gets annoyed. Her strenuous relationship with Royendsd due to their busy schedules.

Then, her love life takes a twist when she gets into a relationship with the rich venture capitalist Jack. Everything seems fine in the beginning, but later, Keely realizes that Jack is controlling, especially after her private video leaks online.

After this, she is visited by Jamie, who apologizes for being unable to delete the email with the leaked video she shared with him when they were dating. Roy comes around later, apologizing to her for breaking up. However, in the end, she does not choose either of them.

Ted Lasso Season 3 finale pulls out all the stops. Richmond makes it to the second position. Ted leaves and returns to the U.S. to be with his son. Moreover, he requests Trent to retitle the book from The Lasso Way to The Richmond Way, highlighting that it’s not just about him but everyone involved.
