The miniseries will only have six episodes, each scheduled to drop weekly every Thursday and expected to follow a 45-minute run.

Since the show is based on Skuse's novel, it will follow the story penned down by the author. Purnell's Rhiannon has been working as a receptionist for a local newspaper and gets frustrated with her family and colleagues ignoring her existence. She has had enough, and after a life-changing tragedy, Rhiannon decides to take on a dark persona.

According to the synopsis shared by Sky:

"In this deviously twisted and darkly comic ‘coming-of-rage’ thriller, Ella Purnell stars as Rhiannon: a quiet wallflower who develops a vengeful and liberating taste for murder... Rhiannon’s life transforms as she steps into a new, intoxicating power, but can she keep her killer secret?"

Rhiannon Lewis cannot digest her school bully getting everything in life while still suffering to mark her presence. Not only this, but she won't get promoted or get motivation from her family.

Additionally, Rhiannon fails to make an impression on the guy she likes. When all of this happens at the same time, followed by her father's illness, how can Rhiannon Lewis continue to live an ordinary life? She must keep her killer side a secret, or it will lead to her downfall.

The series also has Calam Lynch as AJ, Leah Harvey as Marina, Jeremy Swift as Norman, and Dustin Demri-Burns as Jeff. Each supporting character will have some connection to Rhiannon, adding depth to the character's story.

Is there a trailer for Sweetpea?

Sky TV launched a thrilling trailer for Sweetpea on September 19, 2024, available on YouTube. It features Ella Purnell narrating her story to the viewers and explaining how she often makes a list of people she'd love to kill.

The trailer focuses on how the quiet now turned into the most notorious among all and ends with Rhiannon asking, "Do you see me now?". So, it's all about how Rhiannon takes on a horrifying personality after years of trauma.

During an interview on October 3, 2024, the executive producer Emma talked about the main character and said (per whattowatch):

"It’s a story of grief and trauma that results in this complete character transformation... She believes there are good people and there are bad people, and that the bad people deserve to die."

The producer also explained that Sweetpea is more of an origin story than completely following the novel. The miniseries will focus on the emotional side of Rhiannon and her journey of transforming into a serial killer. She's lonely and vulnerable, and her deep-seated anger will make things worse for others.
