Kal-El or Clark Kent and Lois Lane will return for the final time in season 4 of Superman & Lois in the coming week. Superman and his journalist wife from The Daily Planet have made quite an impression as a power couple in the DC universe and on CW.

The superhero drama Superman & Lois follows the adventures of the couple set in the post-infinite crisis Earth arc. In this timeline, the crime-fighting duo are parents to two rambunctious boys who are their mirror images: Jonathan and Jordan Kent. Both have their father’s superpowers and often assist him with crime when they’re allowed.

While Jonathan is tranquil and modest by nature, his brother Jordan prefers to be buried in video games all day long, the anti-social. While the brothers have the usual sibling qualms, when push comes to shove, they’ve had each other’s back for the entirety of 3 seasons.

Earlier this year, CW’s Entertainment President Brad Schwartz confirmed the show’s cancellation due to the new plans for Superman from DCU. This came despite the show doing well with viewership ratings and popularity.

Moreover, with several cliffhangers Lane’s breast cancer bombshell and Clark being without powers, a lot is left to be explored in season 4 of Superman & Lois.

When will season 4 of Superman & Lois release?

Superman & Lois is slated to release at the beginning of next week on October 7, 2024. Furthermore, unlike the usual number of episodes, this time, the superhero drama will conclude with 10 episodes.

Initially, the series was supposed to be released much later on October 17, 2024, however, the showrunners decided to drop the series earlier.

Each episode will follow suit of previous seasons, airing every week until the finale episode. Addressing concerns and doubts about the CW show’s conclusion with just 10 episodes, Schwartz said without spoiling,

“You can watch this final season without having watched the previous, and still be invested in what is happening.”

The show will air on Prime Video globally and conclude a chapter that began in February 2021.

What is the plot for Superman & Lois Season 4?

Season 4 will pick up from where season 3 left off with the antagonist Doomsday sparring against Superman. The story will revolve around the aftermath of his battle with the DC Villain which was never shown in season 3.

However, the result of that altercation was Kal-El’s alleged death. Based on the trailer, the story will see Lois, Jonathan, and Jordan face more challenges since supposedly losing Superman.

With another big bad and an otherworldly creature on the loose, the boys will be in cahoots about avenging their father and protecting their mom. However, this might be temporary since the comics have seen Clark revived.

Whether or not the showrunners would stick to the same lore about his possible return remains to be seen. More about the story’s plot is being kept under wraps.

Who is in the cast for Superman & Lois Season 4?

There was a major upset among fans who learned that over half the cast had said goodbye to Superman & Lois at the end of season 3. Some of them were Dylan Walsh, Wolé Parks, Sofia Hasmik, Emmanuelle Chrique, Taylor Buck, and Inde Navarrette, series regulars. However, here’s a list of the ones confirmed to return for season 4:

  1. Tyler Hoechlin as Kal-El / Clark Kent a.k.a Superman
  2. Bitsie Tulloch as Lois Lane
  3. Alex Garfin as Jordan Kent
  4. Michael Cudlitz as Lex Luthor

Due to personal reasons, Jonathan’s actor Jordan Elsass exited the show ahead of season 3. He was recast as Micahel Bishop. However, it doesn’t appear that he’d appear much either. Similarly, apart from Walsh other cut cast members will reprise their roles as guest stars in the upcoming season 4 of Superman & Lois.

Is there a trailer for Superman & Lois Season 4?

Yes, there is a trailer for Superman & Lois Season 4. A teaser of the new season aired during the San Diego Comic-Con. It featured the epic battle between the Man of Steel and a cathartic Doomsday engaged in a constant exchange of punches and death blows.

That ended with Kal-El using his heat vision while Doomsday approached him without hesitation. However, the new trailer dropped ahead of the season 4 release and in a way (as mentioned) continued the aftermath of their duel.

The trailer opens with Lois in agony over allegedly losing her husband to Doomsday and saying,

“This wasn’t supposed to happen…This wasn’t supposed to happen!”

It continues with a funeral scene followed by Jordan seriously considering tracking down Doomsday and “saving his dad.” Glimpses of the Fortress of Solitude (from the comics) and Superman’s ripped cape floating somewhere in outer space appear.

Next, Lex Luthor reinstated Superman’s death and urged Lois to “enjoy the moment,” instead. He’s quickly interrupted by Jordan who donned his costume claiming to be able to “handle” Luthor.

However, Lois sternly corrects him and claims that neither is he ready to be a hero nor is he his father - she drops the hammer hard. The trailer climaxes with several intense scenes of every cast member and concludes with an unknown person (or villain) hurling at rapid speed toward a comet, colliding with it, and causing an explosion.

All upcoming episodes can be binged on Amazon Prime Video after Superman & Lois releases.
