Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the 11th series in the Star Trek franchise, debuted with Season 1 in 2022 and was immensely popular.

The series, a spin-off of Star Trek: Discovery, follows the crew's adventures in the 23rd century. What's interesting is that it is set a decade before the events of the original Star Trek series.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds stars Anson Mount, Ethan Speck, Jess Bush, and many more actors in iconic roles from the original series.

The show was the most-watched original Star Trek series on Paramount+ for 90 days in 2022 and received a 99% RT score for Season 1.

Let's look back at when the show's cast shared their excitement at the San Diego Comic-Con 2022.

When Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' cast opened up on Season 1's success

While the franchise has a long legacy, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and its subsequent success have proved that contemporary series are just as popular as the original.

Positive reviews, excellent rating numbers, and a near-perfect RT score prove that the show was a modern milestone, and the fans loved watching every minute of it.

The show's cast gathered at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 and was featured on the Star Trek Universe panel in Hall H. They expressed their feelings about Season 1's success in an interview with Screen Rant, also after wrapping filming for Season 2.

Christina Chong (La'an Noonien-Singh) shared her excitement of sharing Season 1's success with almost 6000 fans at Comic-Con:

''I'm super excited.''

She added:

''Because I mean, just for me, Star Trek, I understand how huge it is but I've never been in person with the fans. So it's kind of going to be a huge first-time experience. So I'm kind of half knowing what I'm going to expect but then I think it's going to be overwhelming and very close to blinding me.''

Sharing in the excitement, Celia Rose Gooding (Nyota Uhura) added:

''This is my first Comic Con. Yeah, I'm super excited. I think having my first Comic Con be one of the first Comic Cons back in person and being able to see people and then share this with my cast instead of sitting in my living room on the computer or something. It feels incredible. I'm super excited. I think there are like 6000 people going to be there?''

While Star Trek: Strange New Worlds had its own modern take on the franchise, new actors were cast in the role of familiar and iconic characters, which was not an easy task.

Ethan Peck played the character of Spock in the spin-off, which is an iconic original character, and the actor let his feelings and the pressure of playing such an iconic character on-screen known:

''it's [playing Spock] quite nerve-wracking because, you know, I want to do it accurately and authentically and stay true to the Spock that we know from The Original Series, so it's just been really interesting. I haven't really had time to process and think about it.''

The show was immensely successful throughout the years and ended after a four-season run. It was also nominated for Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards in 2022 and 2024, respectively.

The show paved the way for modern re-tellings in the franchise and introduced the young audience to the Star Trek world.
