Erica turned to Rick in such a situation, as he could be a potential intermediary between her and Stuart. She thinks his intervention might help avoid a potential backfire from a client after the last trade she does with them.

Erica and Rick were once romantically involved. Even the pilot suggested a special shared bond between them, but it was only later that the showrunner, Aaron Korsh, cut it down, as “Suits is more about yearning and not having,” according to Korsh. Their current relationship is characterized by a mix of unresolved tension and mutual respect. But this is not it. Even Rick and Stuart’s relationship is not smooth, as Stuart has undercut Rick a few times already this season, but Rick has managed to assert himself when needed.

Therefore, Rick’s reaction to Erica’s whole story, especially after Stuart takes her mother’s art piece, would reveal a lot about what Rick’s heart holds emotionally as well as his standing in the firm. Stuart is emerging as a villain in the story. In an interview with Collider, Josh McDermitt, who plays Stuart, revealed about his character that Stuart and Ted’s relationship tends to evolve further.

"The vice is going to tighten. We have the seeds of reconciliation planted between Stuart and Ted, which is nice because I don’t think that storyline is done. In terms of the legal side for Stuart, we’re going to see him challenged in a way that I don’t think he’s been challenged before in his career, and that will be exciting."
