One of the key plot points of Suits LA was Lester’s case, which got a major revelation in episode 5. While Ted had taken Lester’s case believing him to be innocent, Kevin discovered in episode 5 that Lester actually committed the murder of his friend and business partner, Simon.

Lester makes this confession to Kevin after Kevin realizes that Lester’s statement to the police and what he said to Kevin and Ted appear too similar to be true. Upon further probing, he eventually finds out the truth though Lester’s reasons behind doing so are not clarified until Suits LA episode 6.

Let us now explore in depth Lester’s case and what compelled him to pull the trigger on Simon.

Lester killed Simon in Suits LA

As confessed by Lester, he did kill Simon. However, the path to bringing this confession out of Lester was not an easy job for Kevin. Once Kevin felt that something was not right with Lester’s statement, he started to dig deeper and involved Erica to find out the truth.

Given the fact that Lester’s confession to the police and his lawyers appeared to be too similar, Kevin was quite sure that he was lying. It then struck him that Lester was perhaps narrating the story from one of his unpublished scripts. Erica then asks Rick about the same because after a long period of working with Ted, Rick might know on which script Lester was basing his statement on.

It is eventually revealed that the script that Lester followed while giving his statement was written by himself and that is why initially it was so difficult to track it down. After Kevin comes to know this, he eventually gets Lester to confess the truth but he does not let Ted know about it immediately.

Lester killed Simon in self-defense in Suits LA

Lester’s trial gets tricky as it becomes evident that Ted is clearly losing to Elizabeth. Moreover, when Elizabeth claims that she has an eyewitness who saw what happened between Lester and Simon on the night of the murder, Kevin and Lester finally tell Ted the truth.

It is then revealed that Lester killing Simon was an act of self-defense, a strategy that Stuart had thought of using right when he came across this case in the first episode of Suits LA. While Ted is not happy about defending a man who did commit a crime, his realization that they need a win pushes him to do what is needed to get Lester acquitted.

Ted goes to Stuart for help and though it is not exactly a desirable situation, they eventually sort it out between them and after working through the whole night, they make a case for Lester that they hope will work. After using the transcripts of Lester’s divorce that Elizabeth had pushed in the trial, Ted and Stuart ask for a change of plea.

Lester is then put on the stand to say what actually happened and it is corroborated by his confession made to Kevin, which he shows to the judge. Since this provides a foolproof argument, the judge acquits Lester of his charges and he walks out as a free man.
