Shark Tank mentor Jamie Kern Lima invited Oprah Winfrey on her podcast episode, which aired on July 2, 2024. The episode titled Oprah’s Life-Changing Lessons: Hear Your Intuition, Find Purpose & Live Your Best Life Now! featured an in-depth conversation about diverse topics.

One of the segments was about how sometimes people feel "not enough" and struggle to defy the odds. Regarding that, the Shark Tank mentor shared with Oprah:

"So many people struggle with feeling not enough. Like they feel like they've had too many setbacks or too many failures, or they don't have what it takes to defy the odds in their life, and they wanna live their best life, but they so often end up doubting themselves out of their own destiny."

During the podcast, Shark Tank mentor Jamie asked Oprah about her childhood, physical abuse, and how she grew up. She also asked about all the "No's" Oprah had received throughout her career.

"For you, you were born in poverty in apartheid Mississippi to a teenage mom who had no education. You endured s*xual and physical abuse.....You were demoted from the evening news, and yet you defied the odds. You right now are referred to as the most influential and powerful woman in the world as the greatest living teacher in the world. Titan icon, all of those things, Oprah, how have you defied the odds and embraced your worth?"

Oprah responded that since her childhood, she has had "spiritual grounding" and her "belief" that she was "God's child" and has specific perceptions, conceptions, and ideas about God. She mentioned that her belief has expanded over the years.

She further mentioned that she has "firm faith" in the power that created the stars and that the Earth revolves around the sun every day. Hence, recognizing that she comes from that, and that's the same creator that created the planets and this universe.

"Well, knowing that I come from that, I've always known that I came from that, even though my idea of what that is has expanded over the years and because I truly am grounded in the source and have been since I was four years old that I can have a cognitive memory of knowing that there's something bigger than me at work here," shared Oprah.

Further, Oprah recalled and shared an incident with Shark Tank's Jamie. She stated that she used to watch her grandmother on their back porch. They had no running water and no electricity. Hence, her grandmother used a big iron pot with a long pole to wash clothes.

One evening, when she was watching her grandmother cleaning clothes, she told Oprah that she "better" watch her because one day she would have to clean clothes like she was doing:

"I remember the moisture from her breath so it must have been cold in Mississippi. And I had the distinct feeling that, no, I'm not. I'm not. This is not gonna be my life. I don't know what my life is gonna be but I know that I'm not gonna be doing this. But I also had sense enough not to say it out loud."

Further, Oprah recalled her grandmother's instructions on how she should pray. She mentioned that since her young age, she prayed on her knees and "still" prayed on her knees.

She then told Shark Tank's Jamie about her book Worthy and how it discusses the opportunity for people to be "grounded" in their own "knowing." Similarly, Oprah stated that she was grounded in the "knowing." It was her belief that she came from something "bigger" than herself.
