After a long wait, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Season 1 finally premiered on December 2, 2024, with two episodes. Series creators Jon Watts and Christopher Ford wrote the first episode, which, despite lacking the presence of stars like Kerry Condon and Jude Law, sets up a solid premise for the eight-episode series.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Season 1 Episode 1 opens with a prologue that says:
“Since the fall of the EMPIRE, the NEW REPUBLIC has maintained order. And yet remote hyperspace routes are increasingly plagued by piracy. These PIRATES boldly brand their armored hulls as a sign to all ships. Surrender or die….”
The story of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Season 1 is set after the Return of the Jedi and the fall of the Empire. It brings back a pirate who had previously appeared in The Mandalorian.
The opening sequence shows a pirate ship illegally attacking and then boarding a bulk freighter. The ship’s captain, Captain Silvo, is quite certain that the ship, because of its sealing, will carry huge credits.
However, contrary to Silvo’s assumptions, the vessel is revealed to contain only one credit, and the crew turns against him for making them do so much for it.
The rest of the episode, however, does not refer back to this incident and moves forward with different storylines. Let us now explore what happened in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Season 1 Episode 1.
The following article contains spoilers.
Does Wim find a hidden Jedi temple in the woods in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Season 1 Episode 1?
Ravi Cabot-Conyers’ Wim is the protagonist of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. An adolescent frequently bored with his home and wants to leave to embark on grand adventures, he is seen taking a shortcut in the first episode after missing his school bus.
Wim stumbles upon what seems to be an old Jedi temple. He boasts of his new discovery to his friend Neel (Robert Timothy Smith), an alien youngling.
Unfortunately, before the two friends could go back to the spot and explore the apparent Jedi temple, Wendle (Tunde Adebimpe), Wim’s father comes into the scene and he absolutely does not believe his son’s story.
However, the ending of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Season 1 Episode 1 introduces a twist that reveals that what Wim had found in the woods was a galactic pirate ship and not really an old Jedi temple.
As Wim pushes a flashing green button on the ship, it powers on, and his friends try to get out of the hatch. That is when Wim’s father comes looking for his son and finds them on the ship, which has already risen into the air.
After the ship shifts, Wim almost falls off but is saved by Neel, Fern, and KB as he is pulled back. The ship, on the other hand, takes off, and Wendle keeps watching helplessly.
After leaving its planet, the ship eventually enters the atmosphere. While it takes in the stars, the vessel also enters hyperspace before Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Season 1 Episode 1 comes to an end.
Who is Fern in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Season 1 Episode 1?
Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) is one of Wim’s friends in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. After she hears Wim talking about the old Jedi temple in the woods in the Principal's office, she and her friend KB (Kyriana Kratter) go there to locate this temple.
Fern and KB start digging out the temple with Fern, hoping to scrape whatever metal she could from the junk. However, as is revealed later, they find much more than a temple and metal.
Fern’s character seems to have aspirations of a life bigger than what she has at Attin, though Fara, her mother, seems to want her to be just another part of the New Republic’s machine.
The first two episodes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Season 1 can be streamed on Disney+.
