NBC just launched its new medical sitcom, St. Denis Medical. This mockumentary medical sitcom is co-created by Justin Spitzer and Eric Ledgin.
The show follows the lives of doctors and nurses working in an underfunded hospital in Oregon and their daily lives.
While the hospital setting is a fresh concept for a sitcom, the St. Denis Medical cast has some familiar faces from the sitcom genre, which will make you fall in love with their daily lives.
The show premiered on NBC with a double episode on November 12, 2024.
Cast and Character Guide of St. Denis Medical
1) Wendi McLendon-Covey
A familiar face in the sitcom genre, Covey started her acting career in 2000 and secured a role in the comedy cult classic Reno 911! in 2003. She has had guest roles in shows like The Office and Cougar Town.
Her breakthrough role was in 2011 in Bridesmaids, followed by What to Expect When You’re Expecting and Magic Mike. She is also known for her roles in movies like The Goldbergs and Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween.
First on the St. Denis Medical cast list, she plays Joyce, the executive director of St. Medical. She is a good leader and can avert crises well, but her flashy appearances often make for excellent humor on the show.
2) Allison Tolman
While Toleman has worked in films and TV series for over a decade, she got recognition from her role in 2014's Fargo alongside Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman.
She is known for her roles in popular TV shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Good Girls, and Why Women Kill Season 2. Her film credits include Krampus, The Gift, and The Sisters Brothers.
Toleman plays Alex, the supervising nurse at St. Denis. She is a workaholic and can be a bit controlling at times. The heart of the show, she might have to find a work-life balance as the show progresses because she sure could catch a break.
3) David Alan Grier
A veteran actor in American films and series, Grier is known for his appearances in I’m Gonna Git You Sucka to The Player, to Tales from the Hood to Stuart Little. He also plays the role of Bentley in Jumanji.
His recent works include The Color Purple, They Cloned Tyrone and Candy Cane Lane.
Grier, an important part of St. Denis Medical's cast, plays the role of Ron on the show. He is a curmudgeonly emergency physician. A stark opposite of Joyce's silly and Alex's workaholic nature, Ron is a recent divorcee (as he mentioned in the show's pilot).
Supporting Cast and characters of the medical sitcom
1) Josh Lawson
Lawson is an Australian actor who started his career with shows like Blue Heelers and Home & Away. He is best known for his roles in House of Lies, Mortal Kombat, and Superstore.
He plays Bruce on the show, a cocky trauma surgeon desperately seeking adulation.
2) Kahyun Kim
Kim is best known for her roles in Cocaine Bear, Freaky Friday, American Gods, and The Mysteries of Laura. She joins the St. Denis Medical cast as Serena, a self-assured travel nurse with a wild streak.
3) Mekki Leeper
His most recent project was his role in The Sex Lives of College Girls. He received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for Jury Duty.
He plays Matt, a newly hired registered nurse from a religious community in Montana.
4) Kaliko Kauahi
A familiar face from sitcoms like Parks and Recreation, Superstore, and iCarly. She joins the St. Denis Medical cast as Val, a no-nonsense veteran at St. Denis and a nurse administrator.
