Squid Game Season 2 is finally here, and the long wait for its release is over. The second season of Squid Game once again finds Gi-hun returning to the brutal set of games, this time with his sights set on retribution. Like the first season of Squid Game, the games are once again conducted by the Front Man in association with the elusive "host" and the army of workers there to do the Front Man's bidding and carry out orders.

Squid Game is sort of an iconoclastic show that uses its production design and structure to reposition children's games against violent and ruthless backdrops. In the strange world of the games, childish colors such as pink abound against the scary events of bloodshed and murder.

The games invite contestants who are in dire need of financial assistance, luring them with promises of financial absolution. However, once they enter the private island where the games are hosted, their individuality is taken from them, and they are given a uniform and a number.

A dedicated army of workers is forever at hand to cull the vast number of contestants. The workers have different designations, presented with the symbols of a circle, square, or triangle. Here's a look at what these symbols actually mean.

The symbology of Squid Game explained in detail

As Squid Game is an exceptionally brutal contest that takes place inside an isolated island, the entire game infrastructure involves a huge scope for menial and manual labor. This is where the workers of the games come to the rescue. Led by the Front Man, the workers are divided into three classes or strata. All of them don the infamous pink overall suit and wear masks that completely cover their faces and eyes, virtually making them inhuman and generic.

The workers with the circle symbol are the lowest in the scheme of things on Squid Game. They do not have the right to speak unless they are spoken to by their seniors. They are mostly assigned the manual labor of cleaning debris, sweeping the blood, and disposing of the bodies of dead contestants by incinerating them. They have a strict schedule that they must adhere to on a daily basis and are not much above the contestants in terms of worth.

The immediate seniors to the symbol of the circle are the workers with the symbol of a triangle. They rank in the middle of the chain of command and have the power to carry weapons, marshall the contestants from one place to another, and speak to them in order to explain the rules of the game. They are like a policeman who has the authority to implement the rules but lack any discretionary powers.

The workers with the square symbol on their masks rank the highest on Squid Games. They have the power to consult with the Front Man himself and are often placed in charge of monitoring the CCTV feed from the games. They are also the ones who pass down orders to the triangle and circle symbol-bearing workers.

The mysterious Front Man and his mask

At the height of the power structure in the games is the Front Man, whose real identity was eventually revealed during the first season as the estranged brother of the police officer who sneaked into the island to investigate.

The Front Man wears an angular, black, opaque mask with no slits or gaps. This makes him look like an eerie character from a video game. He is somehow able to see through his mask and always caters to the obscure "host" of the games and the VIP guests who pay to watch the games in real-time.
