With the second season of Squid Game finally coming to Netflix, this Christmas season just got better. The first season of Squid Game went on to become the most streamed show in the history of the streaming platform giant and the second season has equally tall shoes to fill.

However, amidst the craze surrounding the second installment of Squid Game, famous YouTuber Mr. Beast launched his own version of the game, eliminating the death penalties and adding a whopping prize money of $5 million USD - the highest ever for any game show either on television or a streaming platform.

Mr. Beast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, has more than 300 million subscribers on his YouTube channel. Over the past few years, he has gathered a mass following and is widely known for his outrageous stunts and generous monetary giveaways.

He recently took to his X handle back in late November this year to tease the arrival of his Beast Games:

"I spent over a year creating this 10 episode competition series, breaking 40 world records, building the craziest sets in entertainment history, featuring 1,000 players, and a $5,000,000 grand prize! I poured everything I have into this show, I’ll see you December 19th on @PrimeVideo! 🙂”

While both Squid Game and Beast Games are produced on whopping budgets, the latter was more expensive to make than the former. Here's everything we know.

Squid Game and Beast Games budgets explored in detail

According to a report by The Tab, the budget allocated for the first season of Squid Game was approximately $21.4 million, thereby providing roughly $2.4 million for the filming of each episode.

In contrary to this, it is estimated that the total budget for the ten-part Beast Games has cost Mr. Beast a whopping $100 million and this does not include the outrageous gifts and prize money that the contestants are entitled to have.

Jimmy Donaldson has always had a penchant for pouring money into his endeavors but this time he seems to have gone all in. With the above-mentioned amount, it's clear that he dedicated almost five times the total budget of the first season of Squid Game to his Beast Games.

It is noteworthy to mention that apart from the $5 million prize money, contestants on board the Beast Games are also in for winning a Lamborghini and even a private island!

As of this writing, two out of the ten episodes of Beast Games are streaming on Amazon Prime. The show started with more than 2000 contestants at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. From there, the 1000 participants who qualified for the entry round moved on to the next stage which was filmed in Toronto, Canada.

Beast Games shooting locations explored

The filming for Beast Games took place largely in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The first episode was filmed at the Downsview Hangars in North York, Toronto.

The location includes three hangs, each of them being 77,000 square feet and offers huge and spacious interiors without columns and with power and other amenities, making it perfect for such a large-scale production.

The second episode of Beast Games was filmed in and around the Downsview Airport. An artificial city, known as Beast City, was built by Donaldson for the purpose of housing the five hundred contestants who moved up to the next round.
