Netflix's highest-grossing Korean series, Squid Game, is finally back with a much-anticipated Season 2. Leaving the viewers with many questions and cliffhangers, the series has also been renewed for Season 3.

Among other shocking twists of Squid Game Season 2, Captain Park's true identity and his betrayal of Hwang Jun-Ho were some of the major plot points this season.

Captain Park, played by Oh Dal-Su, is a new character introduced in Season 2, a boatman who saved Jun-Ho after his brother, Front Man Hwang In-ho, shot him in the Season 1 finale. Not only did Park save his life, but he was also helping him and Seong Gi-hun to track the secret location of the games.

It is revealed that Captain Park is actually a foe who was pretending to help Jun-Ho when, in reality, he was working with the Front Man and tipping him off about Jun-Ho's every plan.

More on Captain Park in Season 2 in our story.

Captain Park was betraying Jun-Ho the whole time in Squid Game Season 2

Considered a harmless boatman who rescued and saved Jun-Ho's life in Season 1, Captain Park's true identity is disclosed in the Squid Game Season 2 finale. Jun-Ho and Gi-Hun devised a plan to work together and expose the minds behind Squid Game, including Jun-Ho's brother Hwang In-ho (Front Man).

Gi-Hun provided a team of mercenaries to help Jun-Ho, and he placed a tracking device in his fake tooth, which would provide his partner with his location so that he could track him down and also find the location of the secret island of the games.

However, nothing went as planned because the game's organizers had already extracted the tracking device from Gi-Hun's tooth before he awoke in Squid Game Season 2, and Jun-Ho was led to a fisherman who had the device in his tin of worms (the bait for his fish).

Although the device ending up with a fisherman was the main mystery of Season 2, it was later discovered that Captain Park is actually collaborating with the Front Man, who provided the organizers with the device's information.

He pretended to help Jun-Ho throughout Season 2, which gave him access to their plan's information, so that the Front Man was always two steps ahead of them, and they failed in their revolution in Season 2.

Captain Park was responsible for Jun-Ho and Gi-Hun's failure in Squid Game Season 2

In Squid Game Season 2, the odds were in Jun-Ho's favor because in Season 1, he was on the verge of discovering the island's location before being shot down by his brother. Gi-Hun also backed him, providing him with a group of mercenaries to assist in locating the island.

Everything would have worked out for the best, and the two might have neared the truth of the games had Jun-Ho not been betrayed by Captain Park. He not only tipped the organizers about Jun-Ho's next plans, but he also ensured that he never reached the location while knowing it all along.

As shown in the Season 2 finale, Woo-Seok starts to be suspicious of Captain Park after he wakes up from the noise and finds him on the night of the storm. If he shares his suspicions with Jun-Ho in Squid Game Season 3, it is likely that the two would team up against him and might even use him to get the island's location and end the games.

While this is all theory, Captain Park's true motivations will be revealed in the later season. You can catch the latest season of Squid Game on Netflix.
