A wildly popular show like Netflix’s Squid Game is bound to have different theories about its storyline and characters. Being a show that’s a recurring theme is betrayal and secret identities, it is no wonder that the second season of Squid Game has brought forth a wild theory about who the Front Man actually is.
Fans have been speculating that the Front Man in Squid Game Season 2 might actually be the son of Season 1’s Il-nam. While it does sound wild at first, fans have backed this up with multiple instances of similarities between the two characters, which despite not being very solid, do hint at the fact that these two characters might be related after all.
Let us now explore this new Squid Game theory and what has led the fans to start believing in this connection between the Front Man and II-nam.
Both the Front Man and Il-nam join the games as Player 001 in Squid Game
One striking point of similarity between the Front Man and Il-nam is that both these people joined the games as Player 001 and both of them were corrupt in the sense that they had previous knowledge of the games they were playing, giving them an edge over other players.
In Squid Game Season 1, it was revealed that Il-nam was the creator of the games and in season 2 fans get to see the Front Man participating in the games as Player 001, the same number that Il-nam had used.
He first appears in the second season to vote in favor of the games and then it is revealed only to the viewers that he is the Front Man who had previously won the games and is the main villain of this season.
This point of similarity has led the fans to believe that it cannot be just a coincidence and must be hinting at something deeper like the connection between Il-nam and the Front Man.
The Front Man is Il-nam’s son as per the new Squid Game theory
A seemingly innocent discussion about not drinking plain milk has led the fans to theorize that the Front Man is Il-nam’s son. In Squid Game season 2 the Front Man In-ho offers a milk carton to Jun-hee since he does not drink plain milk.
This immediately took the fans back to season 1 where a similar discussion had taken place when Il-nam had mentioned to Gi-hun that his son also didn’t like plain milk as the latter said to prefer chocolate milk only.
What fans have deduced from these two scenes is that In-ho might be lactose intolerant and that is why he offered the milk to Jun-hee. However, what they have missed here while developing the theory is that Il-nam never said his son to be lactose intolerant. He only said he does not like plain milk.
Putting aside the lactose intolerant fact, it is true that both Il-nam’s son and In-ho do not like plain milk, which certainly hints at a point of similarity between the two. However, simply because two people do not like plain milk, does not necessarily mean that they are the same people. Because of the lack of practicality in this theory, this one has been debunked right after it blew up.
While none of these theories have been confirmed by the show, given the nature of Squid Game it is not unlikely for a plotline like this to emerge as it will further complicate and intensify things. Since it has been confirmed that Squid Game will be ending with season 3, the final season is most likely to either establish or debunk the connection that fans have speculated between the Front Man and Il-nam.
Squid Game Season 1 and 2 can be streamed on Netflix.
