Squid Game Season 2: Release date, plot, cast and more about the acclaimed Korean show on Netflix

Season 2 of Netflix's popular dystopian survival thriller show Squid Game will premiere on December 26, 2024. Written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the second volume will reportedly star Lee Jung-jae, Wi Ha-joon, and Lee Byung-hun in the main cast.

Following the show's success in terms of thrill, suspense, and action, excitement among fans peaked, shortly before the new season's arrival. The first full-length trailer was made available on the day of Halloween.

As a result, there has been much speculation about the story of the new volume and how it will be linked with the first season. The official synopsis of Season 2 reads:

"Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 gave up going to the States and comes back with a new resolution in his mind. Gi-hun once again dives into the mysterious survival game, starting another life-or-death game with new participants gathered to win the prize of 45.6 billion won."

When will Squid Game Season 2 be released?

Season 2 will globally premiere on Netflix on December 26, 2024. The first teaser was released in February 2024 and from the first look, viewers learn that the story will pick up exactly where the first season concluded. The first full-length official trailer was released on October 31, 2024.


What do we know about the plot of Squid Game Season 2?

As seen in the first teaser trailer, the second volume of Squid Game will continue the story from where it ended in season 1. Viewers have reportedly witnessed Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) talking to a mysterious person on the phone who says that he will regret his decision later. In reply, Gi-hun says, "I will find you, no matter what it takes".

Per Tudum by Netflix, Gi-hun will continue the mysterious and dangerous survival game, where the prize money will be 45.6 billion won. It has also been confirmed that Wi Ha-jun’s Hwang Jun-ho will also return, a crucial character in developing the plot as he embarks on a personal mission.

Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has further teased the fans saying:

"Some end up Jedi and some become Darth Vader, right? I think that maybe Gi-hun will go through a certain critical point where he is put through a test as well. If I had to be a Front Man, I would be the most scary Front Man you would ever see."

Who is in the cast of season 2?

Maximum Squid Game's players died in volume one, including mastermind Oh Il-nam and Kang Sae-byeok (Jung Ho-yeon). Only Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) has survived, so he will return as one of the lead cast members. As per reports, Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-Hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo will be returning in the second volume of the series.

However, the new cast members will include Park Sung-Hoon, Yang Dong-Geun, Yim Si-Wan, and Kang Ha-Neul. Netflix has officially confirmed the cast for Squid Game Season 2 on Twitter.
