The new Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again centers mainly on Matt Murdock. As per the show’s storyline, he’s a blind lawyer who was once Daredevil, and although he is not a party to the case, he is back and fighting for justice.
A significant conflict is set up when Wilson Fisk (Kingpin), his old opponent, is elected mayor of New York. Vincent D'Onofrio plays Fisk in the series, while Charlie Cox plays Matt, and it is all set to have several seasons and is a part of the Marvel world. In March 2025, the nine-episode first season premiered.
Spider-Man does not appear in Daredevil: Born Again owing to legal considerations, and while Marvel Studios owns several characters, Sony Pictures owns the film rights to Spider-Man, which limits his appearance in Disney+ shows.
More about Spider-Man’s disappearance in Daredevil: Born Again
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Daredevil: Born Again is one of the most popular television programs. The unique show tells the tale of Matt Murdock, and as per the storyline, he is a lawyer by day and a vigilante by night, and it mainly takes place in Hell's Kitchen, New York. The Marvel show is about Matt's fight against crime and the dishonest Wilson Fisk, and he rises to the position of mayor and imposes strict anti-vigilante legislation as per the plot.
The two characters live in the same city and have collaborated in the comics. With this, fans were thrilled by the prospect of having a potential crossover with Spider-Man. Despite the huge anticipation, Spider-Man was absent from the show, and this is mostly due to the character's legal privileges.
While Marvel Studios owns several characters, Sony Pictures continues to own Spider-Man's film rights. This agreement permits Spider-Man to participate in MCU films but excludes Disney+ series, hence, Spider-Man could not appear in Daredevil: Born Again.
The program acknowledges Spider-Man even if he didn't appear on screen. Although he doesn't appear in Born Again, Spider-Man is present in the universe thanks to Wilson Fisk's reference to a "kid dressed like a spider" in one episode. This implies that Spider-Man is still a part of the continuing MCU plot even if he was not a part of the series' events.
