Trey Parker and Matt Stone's animated adult series South Park is finally back with Season 27, after a two-year hiatus.
Debuting in 1997, the animated series was developed from two short films and has received five Primetime Emmy Awards and an Oscar nomination. The longest-running scripted series, the show is nearing a 30-season mark.
It follows the daily adventures and mishaps of four young boys, living in the titular fictional town. The show is known for its cheeky humour, which is mostly based on the current political and social scenario.
A recently released trailer confirms that the show will return with Season 27 on Comedy Central on July 9, 2025.

South Park Season 27 to finally release after a two-year break
The animated comedy series, South Park, will finally return with new episodes in Season 27 on Comedy Central on July 9, 2025.
Season 26 of the critically acclaimed series, which had six episodes, ran on Comedy Central from February 8 to March 29, 2023. Then, the show went on a two-year hiatus, during which time three comedy specials were released on Paramount+ from October 2023 to May 2024.
While the show went on a considerable hiatus, it was deliberate. As creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone confirmed in an interview with Vanity Fair, the delay in Season 27 was deliberate to avoid the US's upcoming presidential elections.
While the show is known for its satirical comedy, often on political matters, the makers decided to sit through the current elections. Discussing about their decision, Stone confirmed (via Vanity Fair):
“We’ve tried to do South Park through four or five presidential elections, and it is such a hard thing to—it’s such a mind scramble, and it seems like it takes outsized importance,”
Parker added:
“Obviously, it’s fucking important, but it kind of takes over everything and we just have less fun. I don’t know what more we could possibly say about Trump.”
What can you expect from South Park Season 27?
While it is unclear how many episodes will be featured in South Park Season 27, the short teaser-trailer released hints that the animated series will continue to display its raunchy and cheeky humour by commenting on larger social and cultural issues.
Some of the pop culture references that could be made out from the trailer are the Diddy controversy, who is currently facing charges for s*x trafficking. He can be seen flying in space with the children.
The trailer hinted at an overexploding dirty bathroom, AI taking control of the world, a raid on the Statue of Liberty, a bird flu infection, and a Canadian War.
In addition, the season opens with 'time is changing' and dons a sombre background music, to highlight the problematic events happening all around the world. The opening shots include the South Park town on fire, infused with multiple plane-crashes in the short clip.
The trailer ends with Randy saying (to his wife):
“It's okay, Sharon. I'm just going to do some ketamine and f*ck around with the government a little... See ya''
