Silo season two recently came to an end on Apple TV+. It is a testament to the popularity of Silo that the science fiction thriller show has been renewed for a fourth season even before the third season has hit the screens. Based on Hugh Howey's popular novel series, Silo presents a dystopian future in which humans have receded from the surface and live in large underground vaults.

Executive producer Graham Yost recently spoke in an interview with TVLine, wherein he hinted that the impending third season will address a persistent problem with the show that many fans have since pointed out.

This comes after certain sections of the audience expressed their opinion about the imagery of the show being too dark and muted. This is in keeping with the tone of the Apple TV+ show which takes place largely inside confined spaces where natural light is scarce.

The events of the show season two were set into motion when Juliette successfully escaped the vault and in an act of defiance against Bernard's rule inside the vault, deliberately sought to avoid wiping the lens. By the end of the second installment, Bernard's control over the inmates was neutralized, leading to a power vacuum.

Here's everything that we know.

What did Graham Yost say about Silo season 3?

As mentioned earlier, the majority of the Apple TV+ show is set inside underground vaults where natural light does not seep in from the surface. As a result, the vault is mostly lit up by artificial lights which render an overall dark imagery.

Additionally, the post-apocalyptic theme of the show leads to a muted color scheme, causing the absence of rich and vibrant colors. In the past, several sections of the audience have addressed this issue, complaining that the scenes appear a little too dark.

Graham Yost revealed that the upcoming third season will be a bit lighter on the eyes. According to the finale of season two, the third season will heavily feature flashback scenes that happen three hundred years before the original timeline. These will feature a pre-dystopian Washington D.C. when humans still lived on the surface. Yost revealed:

"I met someone at the Austin Television Festival, who was doing a show in England, and I said, ‘Do you have a good location scout, a good locations person?’ And she looked at me and said, ‘Locations? In Silo??’ I said, ‘Locations, in Silo."

He then added:

"So yes, we will be outdoors, and we will be in the world, and there will be sunshine. We do go back to Silo 17” in Season 3, he noted. “And remember, they’ve got a very big power issue there, so they don’t have a lot of light.”

Speaking about the darkness of the second season's imagery, Yost commented:

"Listen, I’m not going to defend it. It’s just the way it plays. And sometimes stuff looks one way in a dark editing room. When we showed the first episode on a big screen in London, it looked fantastic, because motion picture screens are very bright. So I just encourage everyone to crank up the brightness [at home], and you’ll see a difference.”

What happened to Bernard in Silo season 2?

As the conclusion of the Apple TV+ episode revealed, Bernard attempted to leave the vault. He was less protected from the elements than Juliette and couldn't get all the way out before being stopped by her. Moments later, the vault's airlock decontamination system erupted, enveloping everyone in searing flames. Although the episode left Bernard's death uncertain, it is possible that he perished in the subsequent fire.
