Shark Tank's Kevin O'Leary shared a news discussion clip via his Instagram account on February 20, 2025. While debating ocean wind farms on Fox News, he shared his POV and referred to them as "the stupidest idea" because of their various effects on birds and other animals.
Mr. Wonderful seemed to be in an intense debate on Fox News recently. It started after the host asked him whether he agreed with Chris Wright, aka the secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy, about the ocean wind farms.
Referring to the whole idea as "the stupidest," Shark Tank mentor stated:
"I agree. I mean, it was said last year at the climate change conference in Dubai, the leader of that conference said, look, we've all got to face reality. This is all BS. And it was controversial at the time. But at the same time, the British said we're going to start bringing gas up from the bottom of the ocean again. Germans ran out of gas because of the invasion in Ukraine. That wind farm thing, that is sheer economic stupidity."
Shark Tank investor Kevin O'Leary shares his views on ocean wind farms and their effects on animals and birds
Kevin O'Leary, aka Mr Wonderful, could be seen in a recently shared news clip he shared via his Instagram account, engaging in a debate on Fox News. The Shark Tank mentor opened up about the climate change conference from last year.
He discussed the Britishers who talked about getting gas from the depths of the ocean. He also mentioned how the Germans "ran out of gas" because of Ukraine's invasion.
Referring to the infrastructure setup that costs "billions" of dollars, Kevin O'Leary marked that it was in the middle of the ocean, where no one lived. He expressed concerns about the cost of the infrastructure and how the transmission lines were "really expensive."
"You set up billions of dollars of infrastructure in the middle of the ocean where nobody lives. Then you have to put transmission lines, really expensive and environmentally disruptive on the ocean floor, back to where people live. The bird community, the whale community, if ever go near these things, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop."
Kevin stated that such transmission lines sounded "terrible," and they also broke. Criticizing the idea of such a concept, the Shark Tank mentor called out whoever had thought of it. He also referred to the concept as a "waste of money."
Further in the clip, he stated that there were other ways through which we could get electricity. He referred to the ocean wind mills as the "most stupid idea" he'd ever encountered.
He also mentioned that seeing how many individuals have been supporting the idea, they had never thought it might be a "dumb" idea. He further criticized it by calling it "sheer stupidity."
Viewers can witness Kevin O'Leary investing in different products presented on Shark Tank. The upcoming episode of the reality show will air next Friday on ABC.
