Shark Tank Season 9 featured Ryan Diew with a unique iPhone app called Trippie. Ryan's official Trippie App Instagram page describes it as an "Airport App." For fans who are not aware, the Trippie iPhone app offers easy navigational insights for travelers throughout airports.

The app's prime focus is offering users all the info related to the airport's amenities, especially ordering food for travelers' convenience. In addition, various other amenities can also be explored through the Trippie app.

However, when Ryan appeared on Shark Tank Season 9, he had around 170 monthly users and four airports in the app. After learning all the details about his airport app, the Sharks did not seem impressed. They thought the app was still in early development and needed improvement.

Despite his inability to obtain any deals from the Sharks, Ryan did get wider exposure from the nationwide audience. He also received valuable, constructive criticism about his app from the Shark, Mark Cuban.

He left the show empty-handed but full of encouragement, leading even further to his app's growth. Here is the Shark Tank update for Ryan Diew's Trippie iPhone app.

Ryan Diew's Trippie iPhone app pitch on Shark Tank Season 9

Ryan Diew, from his personal experience, developed an app that would help travelers find amenities throughout airports, especially getting food orders. Back in college, when Ryan was traveling for basketball games, he couldn't easily navigate the airports, leading him to develop an app called Trippie.

With the idea of having an easier and simpler interface for all travelers, Ryan developed the Trippie airport app. The app helps travelers find restaurants, shops, cafes, bars, and departure gates at the airport. It includes interactive airport maps and detailed flight information for travelers to keep handy.

Additionally, the app allows fellow users to order food at their respective departure gates. Despite offering many functionalities, Ryan could not convince the Sharks to invest in his airport app.

Without any Sharks backing Ryan, the Trippie app founder decided to push himself forward. Soon after the app was featured on Shark Tank, 18 additional international locations, including Sydney, Tokyo, and Frankfurt, were added.

May 2019 marked the inclusion of 120 airports from across the world on the Trippie iPhone app. With the sole purpose of helping fellow travelers "navigate" through busy airports, Ryan has been working on the app and is looking forward to adding even more functionalities.

Although the number of users was affected by COVID-19 in 2020, the Trippie app gained even better stats in 2023. In 2023, the Trippie app generated $3 million in annual revenue. Moreover, the latest version of the Trippie app also offers bars and coffee shops.

Currently, Ryan Diew is an entrepreneur and partner in Residence at Base Ventures, a firm that deals with investments in upcoming technology companies and products.

In his October 13, 2024 interview with Business 2 Community, Ryan shared about his time on Shark Tank,

"Although it was definitely tough to deal with the aftermath of my controversial pitch. I learned that the internet can be a pretty cruel place. I mean if you had told me that I would have pitched on "Shark Tank" like six months ago, I'd think you were crazy."

He added,

"I had no intention of going on the show before they reached out. So I take the whole thing as a learning experience for me. Millions of people got a chance to see my product and brand and the exposure has helped so much. I'm thankful for the opportunity."

Ryan shared more about Trippie's future, revealing that they are "evolving and expanding." She also revealed some "amazing" features for Trippie's near future.

The upcoming Shark Tank episode will air on ABC on November 1, 2024.
