Severance portrays a company called Lumon that is getting its employees severed. This process involves implanting a chip in their brains that divides their memories and experiences into two parts: Outtie and Innie. Innie works inside Lumon Industries, while Outie is the personal self. At the end of Season 2, episode 10, Severance poses several questions for the viewers to wonder about, and Season 3 must answer them.

Throughout the episodes, Mark's Outie communicates with his Innie via video message to align them and achieve a common goal of freeing his wife, Gemma, from Lumon's testing floor. Lumon fakes Gemma's death and keeps her inside for further sinister experiments. But, in a twist, Mark's Innie turns to Helly and leaves Gemma alone after freeing her.

This leaves Gemma hurt and raises several questions—will Gemma be out of Lumon safely? Why did Mark's Innie not go away with Gemma even after ensuring his Outtie self? What will be the future of Gemma? Will Helly be able to free herself from Lumon, or will Mark get reintegrated?

Here are some questions that season 3 of Severance must answer

Mark's Innie is not emotionally connected with Gemma and is just fulfilling his promise of saving her to his Outtie self. Mark's Innie leaves Gemma at the doors of Lumon and runs to Helly. He knew if he went out, his outtie self would reunite with Gemma and never return to the company, sacrificing the Innie forever.

The Season 2 finale also revealed some sinister experiments Lumon is up to. They test their subjects with various psychological activities. They task Gemma to destroy the crib that she and her husband, Mark, were planning to use for their baby. James Heagan, the CEO, is seen taking a look at the activity and observing if Gemma experiences any emotions while destroying the crib.

This raises another question: after getting severed, how much of the actual personality remains in people?

Why did Lumon choose Gemma for the experiment and fake her death in Severance?

During the video conversations, Mark's Innie assured him that he would complete the reintegration process after saving Gemma from the Cold Harbor room. However, in the finale, we learn that his actions reflect a different motive. Gemma is hurt by what Mark's Innie did to her, but she still needs to be safe until she successfully exits Lumon. She needs to find her home, while Coby might help her understand why Mark's Innie chose another woman or how she can meet Mark outside Lumon.

Another question that stays unresolved is why Lumon chose Gemma for its experiments and faked her death. One of the biggest inconsistencies in Mark’s story is that he personally identified Gemma’s body at the morgue. Did the Lumon create a fake corpse of Gemma, or was Mark manipulated to believe it's his wife? Some cues in Season 2 suggested Lumon's surveilling the couple, such as the blood drive that the company ran. This might have given them access to their DNAs already in Severance.

Severance Season 3 is under production, and its release has not been confirmed yet.
