Disclaimer: Huge spoilers for Severance Season 2 Episode 10 ahead!
After turns, betrayals, and life-or-death questions, the Severance Season 2 finale has a mind-boggling twist that leaves us with more questions than answers!
The episode has Innie Mark successfully rescuing his wife, Gemma, from Lumon's Testing Floor—only to leave her in the nick of time to flee with Helly. This option, based on Innie Mark's apprehension of losing control once he leaves Lumon, produces an aching chasm between his two selves.
Then there is Milchick, the perpetually devoted company bully, who breaks out into rare defiance as he openly ridicules Kier Eagan after being coerced into a humiliating celebratory routine.
These developments lay the groundwork for Season 3, as characters are dispersed, alliances are in flux, and Lumon's agenda is unclear.
Below, we dissect the finale's twists and what they portend for Severance.
Severance Season 2 Episode 10 finale: Mark chooses Helly over Gemma
The most heart-wrenching moment in the finale comes when Mark leaves behind Gemma, his assumed-dead wife, after successfully rescuing her from Lumon.
This decision is motivated by the inherent distinction between Innie Mark and Outie Mark. The two Mark characters remain distinctly different, and Innie Mark understands that if he ever exits the Severed Floor, he no longer exists.
Rather than going outside to meet up with his wife, he prefers to remain within Lumon, keeping himself alive. Helly is in the same dilemma; if she goes out, she will be Helena Eagan, a character not likely to come back to Lumon voluntarily.
Their spontaneous escape indicates that Mark and Helly consider themselves to be partners in a battle against Lumon's domination.
The odds are stacked against them on Severance. Without a clear path to escape and security hot on their heels, their fate is left uncertain.
Will they be able to find an avenue to finally escape for good, or have they only pushed their inevitable capture further down the road?
Severance Season 2 Episode 10 finale: Lumon’s loyal enforcer cracks as Milchick rebels

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the finale comes from Milchick, who's been one of Lumon's most steadfast enforcers. His humiliation hits a high point during the coercive celebration of Mark finishing up the Cold Harbor file, during which he is forced to preside over an absurd marching band routine.
This sudden rebellion indicates that Milchik is not as committed to Lumon as he seems to be. He informs Kier's robot, currently in the MDR office, that he has made his wax statue five inches taller than he was as a human to prove to people that he is some God-like being, towering over them.
To this, Kier turns his back and addresses him by his first name, Seth.
In Episode 9, having been scolded for his choice of words, Milchik tells his boss,
"Devour feculence. It means 'eat shit,' Mr. Drummond."
Milchick's had also had an odd response (rightfully so) to being presented with a painting of Kier Eagan as a Black man—intended to celebrate his promotion—which also suggests his increasing disillusionment.
Although he is still committed to preventing Mark's escape, his tantrum begs the question: Is Milchick about to betray Lumon? If so, what might drive him to it?
Severance Season 2 finale: What happens to Gemma?
Stranded outside the Severed Floor, Gemma is free—but at what cost? With no recollection of what transpired within Lumon, she must construct the puzzle of her past amidst the threats of the world outside.
The climax of the Severance Season 2 finale also uncovers a horrific tidbit about her stay at Cold Harbor: she had to take down a crib that she and Outie Mark had readied for their soon-to-be child under the keen eye of Jame Eagan.
This could indicate that Lumon's experiments are more than just severance—more likely, they may extend to psychological conditioning and erasure of emotions. At the same time, the mystery of Lumon's ultimate goal remains unsolved.
The discovery that goats on the Severed Floor are being employed as ritualistic sacrifices foreshadows a cult-like element of deeper company ideology. With Cobel and Devon still involved and Irving perhaps in possession of critical knowledge, the fight against Lumon is by no means concluded.
