Severance Season 2 finale episode, Cold Harbor, released on Thursday, March 20, in the U.S., and globally on March 21, 2025, on Apple TV+. Among other plotlines, the hit workplace thriller series' finale episode had some big revelations about Gemma Scout and her escape from the clutches of Lumon Industries.

For the unversed, Gemma Scout is played by Dichen Lachman, and she plays the character of Mark Scout's wife in the show and is a former professor at Ganz College. Even though she was initially believed to be dead by the outside world, soon viewers realized she survived the car crash and was kept on the Testing Floor of Lumon Branch 501. Thus, she was transformed into a severed employee, a Wellness counselor (her innie persona) called Ms Casey.

Severance Season 2 was mostly based on Mark's efforts to reintegrate with innie Mark in order to rescue his outie's wife Gemma from the Lumon Industries. The major twist in the finale was when Innie Mark rescued Gemma from the Cold Harbor room, but abandoned her once she was secured.

Innie Mark decided not to follow her outside the building and instead chose to stay with Helly (Brit Lower), thus leaving Gemma confused and shocked. Innie Mark and Helly were aware of the fact that if he left the Lumon building, he could never return, thus they decided to stay back.

In an interview with Variety, Lachman explained the most intense and emotional scene was when Mark found Gemma through the maze-shaped hallways of the Lumon and they began their escape. More on that below in our story.

For context on the scene, as Gemma's innie Ms Casey reached the exit on the severed floor, Mark's innie decided to part ways and return to Helly. When Gemma escaped the Severed floor, she finally came to her true self when she began to cry and scream her lungs out for Mark and begged him to go with her.

In the interview with Variety, when asked about the final scene in the hallway when she was crying and begging for Mark to come with her, she revealed her voice cracked and remained so for a day. She said,

"Yes, my voice was hoarse after that day I can't remember if it was a day or a day and a half because well obviously they had to shoot the other side of that door like Adam and Britt were on that side."

She also explained how the entire scene was shot in what is known as a Zolly shot. She explained it to Variety,

"We had a very long Zolly shot. Zolly shot is when you are transitioning and the camera does that weird thing. I think it's like a zoom and a move at the same time."

Lachman continued that the entire hallway scene was very emotional for her and she kept on crying even after the scene was cut. She told Variety,

"The screaming and the desperate cries to him got so deep, it was a little bit hard to let go afterward. And it was the props department they were so kind they put padding on the door for me because I was really going for it, banging that door."

In another interview, this time with People Magazine, Lachman expressed enthusiasm about exploring new secrets and twists about her dual characters for Severance Season 2. She said,

"It was so wonderful because so much of Gemma for so long had just been little fragments. To really live in that space and lean into that emotional anchor for Mark, outie Mark, it was really exciting."

Meanwhile, in the interview with Variety, when Lachman was asked about what would happen to her character Gemma in the next season, she said,

"There's so many different ways it could go when you break it all down. I try not to fantasize about having too many expectations. Remember she has 25 or 24 different innies and there's a lot of stuff going on at Lumon. I am keeping my fingers crossed."

Following the huge success and worldwide critical acclaim, Severance has been renewed for Season 3.
