With the official release date of Severance Season 2 set for January 17, 2024 fans are now eagerly waiting for the Lumon employees to return and witness what happens to them following the whistle-blowing attempt that they made at the end of season 1.

Severance Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger and saw Mark, Helly, Irvin, and Dylan finally realizing that they have been part of something severely sinister and by the end of the finale, their two selves, the ones inside the Lumon office and the ones outside of it come together.

As the trailer for Severance Season 2 took the fans back to the world of Lumon and how the employees are navigating the dark world of the organization, let us now explore some of the burning questions that need answers in the second season.

What is the actual job of Lumon employees in Severance?

The whole first season of Severance saw the employees work on their computers to put some kind of numbers into boxes. They all diligently did it though the purpose behind this was never clear. Even when successfully boxed the numbers they needed to, the same process kept repeating without anyone seeing any visible results.

This is one major question that requires answering in season 2 as that would probably help give a better insight into the inner workings of Lumon and explain what the company does that requires treating the employees the way it does.

What is the story of Ms. Casey?

One of the biggest revelations that happened in Season 1 was Mark’s discovery of his wife being alive contrary to what he thought.

It initially seemed that Mark’s reason behind signing up for the severance program was precisely because he could not deal with the grief of his wife passing away and needed to segregate himself into two parts so that during office hours he does not have to deal with the excruciating pain of losing his wife.

However, as it was later revealed, Mark realized that his wife Gemma was not dead and she was actually in Lumon, serving as Ms. Casey, the wellness instructor of the company.

It never became clear why or what the company was doing to her and how Mark was led to believe that she had died. Season 2 is very likely to answer this question or at least provide some insight into it.

What is Ms. Cobel’s deal?

Ms. Cobel is another interesting character on whom season 2 is very likely to focus since season 1 had set up her character in a mysterious way. She seems to be obsessed with Mark and lives as his outtie’s neighbor.

It becomes clear that she does this only to keep an eye on Mark outside office hours. Her outie is Mrs. Selvig and she even goes to the length of befriending Mark’s sister so that she can have more insight into Mark’s personal life.

However, the mysterious board, which also needs an explanation about its exact nature in season 2, does not take these activities by Ms. Cobel very positively and season 2 should be answering Ms. Corbels’ true intentions with Mark and the reason behind her obsession with him.

What are those goats doing in the hallway?

Season 1 Episode 5 shows Mark and Helly stumbling across a bunch of goats and a man caring for them who gets mad at them for entering that room. While Severance had always some level of creepiness to it, the introduction of the goats took the show’s mystery to another level.

However, no further explanation was given regarding the goats, and that has naturally kept the fans speculating. While it was never made clear what exactly is done by Lumon, the goats might have some connection to it. This is one of the most burning questions that season 2 of Severance needs to answer.

Why did Helly allow herself to be severed?

One of the biggest revelations of Severance Season 1 came with the fact that Helly was actually the daughter of Lumon’s CEO James Eagan. This came as a shock because her outie seemed to completely support the company and turned out to be a completely different person than what Helly appears inside the office.

This is another one of the mysteries that Severance Season 2 needs to answer since the reason behind Helly agreeing to get severed was never mentioned in Season 1. Whether she is in this because her family owns the company or whether she has some motivations of her own remains to be seen in Severance Season 2.

Severance Season 1 can be streamed on Apple TV+.
