Severance Season 2 is changing the dynamics to surprise character interactions and struggles for power. Throughout the season, it is revealed that Lumon Industries is far more fragile than it seems.

Mark Scout (Adam Scott) will do anything to be reunited with his wife, Gemma (Dichen Lachman), while Harmony Cobel (Patricia Arquette) is rejected by the company she once devoted her life to. Both Mark and Cobel, though they had a strained history, now have a common foe—Lumon.

All season long, Mark takes a risk to go through reintegration, trying to combine his severed and outie halves. Cobel, meanwhile, who was a loyal Lumon executive, gets pushed aside and disrespected by the same company she built. With both of these characters wanting to break down Lumon's grip on their lives, there is a possible alliance in the making. But whether they can trust each other is yet to be seen.

Severance has never done well without mystery and power dynamics, and this season is no exception. As Mark and Cobel follow their parallel but connected journeys, the question is: Will they join forces to bring down Lumon, or will past betrayals continue to keep them apart?

Mark's daring attempt at Reintegration

Mark's experience in Severance Season 2 is turned on its head when he finds out that Ms. Casey and Gemma are the same. This news fuels his urgency to win her back, and he goes so far as to have the risky reintegration procedure done by renegade Lumon surgeon Reghabi (Karen Aldridge). But soon, the procedure starts to drain him.

Mark becomes unconscious from extreme side effects, and his sister, Devon (Jen Tullock), is frantic. With no one else to turn to, she takes a risk—calling on Harmony Cobel for assistance. This act starts a chain reaction that may turn everything around.

Cobel's response to Devon's call is significant. While she was once intensely devoted to Lumon, she has been cast aside and now stands to gain her reasons for sabotaging the company.

Having such intimate familiarity with the severance process, she might be the only individual who can assist Mark in staying alive during reintegration. Yet whether she does so out of altruism or secret agendas is uncertain.

Cobel's changing loyalties in Severance Season 2

Harmony Cobel was a key player for Lumon, but all of that changed in Season 2. Demoted to a role that means nothing, she understands she has been discarded. Her scuffle with Helena Eagan (Britt Lower) makes one thing plain—her work for Lumon no longer matters. This deception erodes her trust in the company she devoted her entire life to.

Regardless, Cobel is not a woman to give up easily. She sets out on a mission of personal reclamation, trying to find leverage over Lumon. In Episode 8, she is seen behaving as if she has information that would be disastrous for the Eagan family. If she uses it, she can turn the whole leadership of Lumon around against itself.

On the other hand, her history can't be denied. In Severance Season 1, she was more than willing to manipulate, spy on, and even torture Mark to advance Lumon's agendas. Although her recent actions indicate a change of heart, whether she can be trusted or not is debatable. Mark and his colleagues might find her assistance necessary, but cooperating with her would prove costly.

Will Cobel and Mark cooperate?

With both Cobel and Mark opposing Lumon in their ways, an alliance becomes feasible. Mark's motivation is personal—he desires to be reunited with his wife. Cobel is motivated by revenge and the desire to gain power back. Their motivations might not be the same, but they are close enough that working together will be advantageous.

Their short but charged encounter in Episode 2 foreshadows unfinished business. Mark insists on being told about Gemma, and Cobel appears momentarily taken aback. Instead of answering him, however, she leaves him in her car. This scene implies that she does possess information that would be beneficial to him, but she isn't prepared to share everything just yet.

The last episodes of Severance Season 2 will show whether their relationship becomes anything. In case Cobel does assist Mark, she will be a linchpin that helps bring Lumon down internally. Having been manipulated by her in the past, she might have ulterior motives, which in the end could not be where Mark wants her to be.
