Severance fans, there is another show you might like: AMC+'s Pantheon. It is about a girl named Maddie. She gets messages from her late dad, David, who is not dead. His mind has been put in the cloud for a company project. This show got a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and a 95% from audiences.
It is about a world where brains can be made into digital things, and it's like Severance in how it looks at who we are and the scary parts of tech. Maddie finds out her dad's mind isn't the only one online. It's all about "Uploaded Intelligence" (UI), where people's thoughts can be played with. This show makes you wonder what is real and what is not, just like Severance.
So if you liked Severance and want more of that kind of thing, check out Pantheon. It is all about the big questions: What makes us human when our minds aren't in our bodies anymore? And what's right and wrong with playing with our brains like they're just computer programs?

Pantheon is the ultimate sci-fi hidden gem
Pantheon faced challenges with its marketing and a bumpy start despite getting great reviews. This 2022 animated show was on AMC+, but it didn't get the attention it deserved. AMC+ ended up canceling it, leaving its second season up in the air. But there is good news! Netflix picked it up, giving the series a new opportunity to connect with viewers.
The show comes from the mind of Craig Silverstein, who also created Nikita. It is inspired by Ken Liu's short stories, a Hugo Award-winning sci-fi writer. The animation is top-notch, thanks to Titmouse, a studio known for its cinematic style.
Pantheon's got a great voice cast too. You will hear Daniel Dae Kim, Paul Dano, and Rosemarie DeWitt. William Hurt was also there before he passed away.
Critics praised its writing and mature plot. Caroline Framke from Variety described it as:
"It’s a fittingly arresting start to this unnerving series, which taps an all-star cast to meld micro character work with macro questions about technology that may never have a satisfying answer."
Additionally, Judy Berman from Time Magazine wrote:
"A gripping, cerebral, remarkably high-concept animated sci-fi series.
How does Pantheon connect to Severance’s themes?
Pantheon and Severance are two shows that explore similar themes. Both look at what happens when companies go too far and mess with people's minds. In Severance, workers at Lumon have a weird surgery that completely separates their work life from their personal life. They have two separate selves, one for work ("Innies") and one for home ("Outies").
Pantheon takes this idea even further. It asks what would happen if a company could own your mind forever. The show looks into AI, how companies might use your data and even the possibility of living forever digitally. It has got a lot of deep stuff going on, like asking if you are you.
Pantheon is like watching a thriller while feeling like a kid again, but with more existential dread. It keeps you hooked, wanting to see what's next.
Pantheon Season 1 is now streaming on Netflix for everyone to enjoy. If you are looking for Season 2, it is unavailable to watch on Netflix anymore. You can watch it on YouTube or through AMC+, but only in some areas.
If you liked Severance and want another sci-fi show to blow your mind, Pantheon is perfect for you.
