After making the world crazy with BBC's Peaky Blinders, the Birmingham gang will return for another adventure in the feature film created and written by Steven Knight.

Debuting in 2013, the series follows a group of a Birmingham-based gang in the 1920s, led by Cillian Murphy's Thomas Shelby.

Throughout the six seasons, the show saw its protagonist evolve, who was adamant to leave his violent ways behind and start afresh in life in the series finale. But the Birmingham gangster will return for another adventure, which Murphy dedicated to his loyal fans. The movie will likely hit Netflix in late 2025 or early 2026.

Cillian Murphy on playing Thomas Shelby again in the new Peaky Blinders movie

While Murphy is known to be a private person, he seldom surprises his fans with heartwarming interview moments about the sneak peek of his upcoming projects.

In an interview with On Demand Entertainment, during the London premiere of his movie Small Things Like These, Murphy opened up on his experience on the sets of the new Peaky Blinders movie:

''It was different but it was familiar...I suppose it's been a while but the script is great, amazing director, amazing cast...I was very keen to make a film that the fans love...''

It was indeed the greatest surprise for the show's fans when Knight announced that the saga of the Birmingham gang would end with a feature film.

As confirmed by Netflix's Tudum in December 2024, the filming of the movie has officially wrapped, and Murphy again dedicated Thomas' Shelby's last adventure to his fans (via Tudum):

“It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me. It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.”

What can you expect from the Peaky Blinders movie?

Thomas Shelby, riding on a white horse in the Season 6 finale, hopeful to leave his old ways behind and start a new life, felt like the last we will see of the beloved character, but the feature film will see him returning once more.

While the plot details of the movie are still not disclosed, Knight confirmed that the events of the film will follow Thomas and the other characters during WW2, which will be a new time period for the Birmingham gang.

When asked about what fans can expect from the new movie, Knight promised that the cast and crew have gone all out and it will be an epic adventure (via Netflix's Tudum):

“I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen. It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.”

The movie is directed by Tom Harper, who also directed many episodes from Season 1 in 2013 and discussed the show's legacy in an interview with Netflix's Tudum:

“When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast...''

He added:

“Peaky has always been a story about family — and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.”
