School Spirits Season 2 finally came to an end with a finale so shocking and twisted that it would be safe to say that no one expected the way events unfolded in the last episode. While Season 2 provided answers to lingering questions from the first season, it also ended with many unresolved threads that would need to be addressed in the next season, if it happens.
While season 1 had ended with Maddie’s shocking discovery of the truth about her living status and the revelation of Janet possessing her body, season 2 followed her trying to claim her body back and while trying to do so, she and her friends discover a lot more about their town.
Let us now explore the happenings of the School Spirits Season 2 finale in detail.
The following article contains spoilers.
Janet decides to stay back in School Spirits Season 2 finale
One of the most shocking moments in School Spirits finale came when Janet, despite finding the opportunity to cross over, decides to stay back. While it was initially established that Janet was a rather villainous character in the show because of her inhibiting Janet’s body, gradually it became clear that the antagonist was Mr. Martin.
He was the one who started the fire that killed both himself and Janet. However, after enduring much suffering and working through her trauma, Janet ultimately refuses the chance to cross over.
One of the key reasons behind her doing so is that she wants to stay back and help the friends she has made. While she knows that she will be able to cross over easily now, she also knows that not all of her friends will be able to do so and she does not like the idea. Moreover, with their town under the threat of being haunted by the same thing as their school, Janet decides it’s best to stay back and try solving things for the better.
School Spirits co-creator Megan Trinrund had mentioned to CinemaBlend that while initially, the plan for Janet’s character was to make her pass over, going forward,
“We decided she should stay, and a big part of that is because she does hold a lot of answers. She can help the ghosts. She finally can put some of these pieces together for them. And honestly, more than crossing over, I almost feel like she deserves to get closure on this mystery, this problem she's been trying to solve for so many years. She wants to finish her work.”
Jess Gabor, the actor playing the character of Janet also echoed the same sentiment as she mentioned that since Janet finally made some friends, her decision not to pass over made sense.
Xavier can communicate with ghosts as shown in School Spirits' finale
School Spirits Season 1 finale showed Xavier having a near-death experience and in the season 2 premiere, he died for a brief moment when there were ghosts around him in the hospital.
While Xavier survived and came back to life, in the season 2 finale it was revealed that he could still see ghosts. In this Sixth Sense-like twist, where he can see “dead people” it is also shown that Xavier is also able to communicate with Maddie’s dead father.
This supernatural twist to his character made perfect sense because of how he had touched death and came back, explained Oliver Goldstick, executive producer of the show.
As School Spirits Season 2 ended with a new set of questions including what is going to happen to Simon who was shown to be stuck in the afterlife in Mr. Martin’s scar, fans now eagerly await updates on season 3, which can be expected to deal with these questions and much more.
School Spirits can be streamed on Paramount+.
