School Spirits season 2 introduced a twist in the story in the very first episode, as Xavier crossed over to the other side and started seeing ghosts briefly while in a coma. The supernatural teen drama revolves around Maddie, a high school girl who disappears and finds herself as a ghost.
Xavier is Maddie’s boyfriend, who becomes a suspect in her disappearance and supposed murder case. The fact that he was cheating on her with the school cheerleader, Claire Zomer, does not make him an instantly likable character.
However, as the show progresses, more aspects of Xavier’s personality come out. After he meets with an accident, he experiences the afterlife during his stay in the hospital, which makes him the second living person to interact with spirits after Simon.
Spencer MacPherson, who plays Xavier, has now opened up about his character’s supernatural connection in School Spirits season 2. The actor has confirmed that Xavier does have an other-worldly connection in the new season due to his near-death experience.
Spencer MacPherson reveals Xavier has a supernatural connection in School Spirits Season 2
Spencer MacPherson talked about Xavier’s supernatural experience in School Spirits season 2 in an interview with ScreenRant. Discussing how his accident and his time in the hospital led to his character’s growth, the actor said:
“I think that the catalyst for Xavier's development and character growth in the second season is this near-death experience and this connection that he has with the other side.”
MacPherson added that Xavier's other-worldly connection changes his friendship dynamics with Simon, as the two are the only characters who have some sort of a link with the after-life:
“I think that that makes them the only two that have that shared experience and draws them into this friendship.”
School Spirits season 2 might explore the connection in depth in future episodes. While Xavier is not able to interact with Maddie yet, like Simon, his experience is only going to help him get closer to the truth about his girlfriend’s disappearance. At the same time, he could also play an important role in bringing Maddie back to life and rescuing her body from Janet’s control.
Xavier’s supernatural experience in School Spirits Season 2
Xavier’s other-worldly experience begins after he is hit by a truck in the first season’s finale. He gets critically injured and is knocked unconscious. Xavier is rushed to the hospital, where he falls into a coma in the School Spirits season 2 premiere.
However, something weird happens as he battles for his life in the ICU. Xavier wakes up and walks through the hospital, but no one seems to notice him. He eventually encounters the spirits of the deceased and realizes his soul might have left his body.
As doctors struggle to revive him, Xavier briefly exists between life and death and witnesses a world that only Maddie and the ghosts of the school have experienced before.
This out-of-body experience not only shocks him but also establishes his connection to the supernatural. Once his body regions consciousness, he returns to the physical world, but the experience changes him completely. He gets some unexpected abilities.
For example, he can stare at Maddie’s spirit without even realizing it. While he was initially skeptical about the concept of an afterlife, the incident makes him believe that there exists a world between life and death.
School Spirits season 2 is now streaming on Paramount+.
