School Spirits: How did Janet possess Maddie’s body? Details explored

School Spirits returned with its second season after a long wait of almost two years, and this season is already proving to be as intense as, if not more intense than, the first season. As Maddie continues her search for her body and tries to understand how she died, it is finally explained how she was not dead but only possessed by Janet.

Janet, who was supposed to cross over after her death in a fire caused by Mr. Martin, did not in fact do that. This was discovered after the Dawn crossover because when he did, lights had flickered, but nothing of that sort happened when Janet seemingly crossed over. This only proved that Janet did not go anywhere and had possessed Maddie’s body instead by running into her.

Maddie was possessed by Janet in School Spirits

The biggest mystery in School Spirits Season 1 was Maddie’s death and her attempts to find out how she died. Since her body could not be found, it was never clear what really happened to her. However, in a shocking twist, it was revealed that Maddie was never dead, and it was Janet who had been possessing her the whole time.

In School Spirits Season 2, as Maddie prepares to open the door of the fallout shelter for her ghost friends Rhonda, Charley, and Wally, she notices Mr. Martin standing there, and as she asks him about what happened to him, he hesitates to answer.

This leads to a flashback where it is finally revealed how Janet had taken possession of Maddie’s body. It is shown that in the boiler room, where Maddie had apparently died, Janet’s ghost had run into her, which made her unconscious as she also hit her head on a pipe.

However, just after that, Janet’s ghost entered Maddie’s body, and despite Mr. Martin’s attempts to reason with her, she ran off. This proves to be the reason behind Maddie never finding her body because she was never dead.

Season 2 is also likely to set up more questions about the relationship between Mr. Martin and Janet, as the two definitely seem to have some connection, and the former is shown to feel guilty about the death of the latter.

Season 2 is also very likely to have an explosive finale that can be even more shocking than how season 1 ended, as the cast of School Spirits confirmed. With the big revelation about Maddie’s death, it now remains to be seen how she would reclaim her body and if Janet’s ghost is at all willing to give it up.
