What to expect from Say Nothing Season 1 Episode 1?

Since the show will be exploring the lives of Belfast people during the tumultuous times of The Trouble, spanning from 1970-1990, the first episode can be expected to set up the premise, while also introducing the key characters, the Price sisters.

The official plot synopsis of the show reads:

“Spanning four decades, the series opens with the shocking disappearance of Jean McConville, a single mother of ten who was abducted from her home in 1972 and never seen alive again. Telling the story of various Irish Republican Army (IRA) members, Say Nothing explores the extremes some people will go in the name of their beliefs, the way a deeply divided society can suddenly tip over into armed conflict, the long shadow of radical violence for all affected and the emotional and psychological costs of a code of silence.”

With a plot so intense, and only 9 episodes to wrap up the whole story, the first episode is expected to be filled with the major storylines, which will be explored in the subsequent episodes.

More about Say Nothing

Though the series will be narrating the experiences of multiple IRA members, it will mostly follow sisters Dolours Price and Marian Price, played by Lola Petticrew and Hazel Doupe, respectively.

Petticrew previously starred in another mini-series Anne Boleyn. She also starred in the TV show Bloodlands and films like Tuesday and She Said. Doupe has previously worked on projects like Sanctuary, Smother and Kathleen Is Here.

Say Nothing also casts Anthony Boyle of Manhunt fame as Brendan Hughes, a military strategist who despite being charismatic, appears to be conflicted. There is also Josh Finan of The Gentlemen fame, portraying the role of a leading political operator, Gerry Adams. Maxine Peake of Peaky Blinders fame plays the older version of Dolours Price.
