Saturday Night Live season 50 on April 5 took not one but two digs at Morgan Wallen's exit from the previous episode. On SNL's March 29 episode, while the end credits were still rolling, guest singer Morgan Wallen decided to simply walk off the show while the cameras were still rolling and everything was being broadcast.
This had already given the viewers a lot to talk about, but adding fuel to the fire, Morgan uploaded a story on his Instagram and wrote,
"Get me to God's country."
The singer, who performed two songs on the episode, had not shared what he meant by this cryptic message. He had added a picture of what looked like a private jet parked at the airport.
Soon enough, this incident became a trending topic on the internet among SNL watchers who reacted to the exit. Fortunately, the entire fiasco gave the Saturday Night Live writers a chance to throw shade at him for walking out early.
The first dig happened during the Cold Open, and the second one was delivered by Weekend Update host Colin Jost.
Saturday Night Live Season 50 Episode 16 - The Cold Open mocks Morgan Wallen's exit
The Cold Open saw a version of President Donald Trump by James Austin Johnson, who gave a sketch of the recent developments in America's international politics.
Talking about the reciprocal tariffs that are now set up, Trump says that they are going to bring back the "Great Depression" once again with their slogan of MAGDA: Make America Great Depression Again.
Giving the viewers a rendition of Trump's speech at the Rose Garden, the Saturday Night Live version claims that even though people are doubting his decision on the tariffs, he has worked on those using a formula.
He jokes about putting reciprocal tariffs everywhere, even at a place humans do not inhabit: Heard and McDonald's island. Painting a picture for the fans about how this place would look, President Trump showed a board with a Big Mac in between, as he said,
"Can you imagine that? A Big Mac in a hula skirt. Ooh la la! Get me to God’s country, right? Remember that?"
Saturday Night Live Season 50 Episode 16 - Colin Jost threw shade at Morgan Wallen
Traditionally, Saturday Night Live sees musicians standing beside the host till the end credits finish rolling, but Morgan Wallen had decided to make an unusual exit. Thus, Colin Jost, the host of the Weekend Update section, decided to talk about it.
Starting with a conversation about how President Trump is making America suffer again with his reciprocal tariffs, hurting the economy, Colin said,
"Just in the last two days, investors have lost over $6 trillion. Money is leaving the stock market, faster than Morgan Wallen at 'goodnight.'"
Saturday Night Live airs on NBC, and the latest episodes are all available to stream online on Peacock.
