The spy thriller also steps in comedic camaraderie between the characters and has its moments of shocking drama delivered in a no-nonsense manner. Among such moments is the act of Sam's first murder, which is revealed in an extended flashback sequence on Black Doves.
Sam is a triggerman who works for Reed and Lenny Lines, the two figureheads of the clandestine international espionage organization called Black Doves. Over the years, he has made a few mistakes on the job and has been hung out to dry a couple of times. However, both Reed and Lenny know that when things go south, Sam is the hitman to be trusted. This is the reason why after the assassination of a civil servant called Jason, who secretly had an affair with Helen, Sam is sent to guard the latter.
Sam operates under a personal code of conduct and his journey to become a hard-boiled assassin started after he was given a seemingly difficult assignment by Lenny, killing his father, Frank! Here's everything we know.
Sam became an assassin on Black Doves by killing his father
The first time Sam pulled the trigger, the barrel of his gun was pointing at his father, Frank. In one of the most thrilling and extended flashback sequences of the show, viewers are told the origin of the story of Sam, the hitman. The presence of his father in Sam's life was formidable since his childhood. It is further revealed that his father was an assassin as well and perhaps worked for a similar international espionage organization.
When Sam grew older, he approached Lenny and Reed to be a professional hitman himself. Lenny decided to test the young Sam by giving him an assignment that would go on to forge his character. Sam was tasked with murdering his father. It is interesting to note here that though he was an assassin, Frank lived by the rule that he would never pull the trigger if it didn't make the world a better place to live in.
Although the exact reason behind Lenny ordering Frank's death is unknown, it can be speculated that the character might have crossed a line in the slippery world of international espionage. He might have betrayed the Black Doves in some way and had to face the consequences.
By making Sam murder his father as a part of his initiation as a hitman, Lenny and Reed established that he was an agent who could be trusted through thick and thin.
What is Black Doves all about?
