ABC's newest medical drama, Doctor Odyssey, created by Ryan Murphy, premiered its Season 1 on September 26, 2024.
The show went on a hiatus in November and will return with Part 2 on ABC on March 6, 2025, with a special two-episode jaw-dropping event, according to ScreenRant.
Murphy, famous for his shows like 911, American Horror Stories, and Glee, has shown some memorable romances on screen, and his medical drama, Doctor Odyssey, broke generic trends with a love triangle between lead characters, Max, Tristan, and Avery.
Part 1 of the show featured a love triangle between the medical trio, which soon turned into a polyamorous affair after the three sl*pt together. Part 2 will continue to explore this complicated three-way love story even as new characters enter the drama.
Read on to know more about the love triangle in Doctor Odyssey.
Doctor Odyssey Part 1 featured an (almost) polyamorous relationship
While the trio handled medical situations aboard the luxury cruise ship they work in, sparks were flying between them. With Avery both on the minds of Max and Tristan, they were taken aback by her desire for a relationship with both.
While Murphy's universe has seen many memorable couples, Doctor Odyssey might be his first medical drama exploring a potential drama involving a throuple, with Max, Tristan, and Avery. The trio was involved in a messy love triangle before Avery expressed her desire for both men, after which they sl*pt together.
Their personal storyline also coincided with the ship's theme, which was 'Gay week' for Episode 7, titled Oh, Daddy!
While Max and Tristan are shown as heterose*ual men, they give in to Avery's demand and get involved in a thr**some, which makes both of them very uncomfortable the next morning. They decided that they were not ready to explore the idea of being a throuple with Avery and were back to a love triangle status.
However, the damage was done. Avery realized she was pregnant in the Part 1 finale, and the confusion about her baby's father loomed large over them, which will be the main focus in Part 2.
Doctor Odyssey's love triangle will get messier in Part 2
Looks like Murphy is going all in with relationships in Doctor Odyssey Part 2, as the trailer introduces a new trauma surgeon, Dr. Brooke Lane.
With tensions still high and Avery's pregnancy in the picture, Brooke's addition is aimed at adding to the ongoing drama. Brooke will likely get entangled with Max as the trailer shows her leaving the latter's room in a towel, while Avery sneaks up on them.
With Avery's confusion about the two men, Brooke's addition will make things messier, as the trailer also shows tensions between the two women.
Elsewhere, Part 1 showed Tristan engaging in casual flirting with Chef Vivian. The two instantly hit it off, until Tristan started his relationship as a throuple with Max and Avery. It remains to be seen what happens of them in Part 2.
With so many contenders in the mix, one can no longer call this a love triangle. Doctor Odyssey Part 2 is headed in a completely new direction, new to Murphy's universe. It would be interesting to see who ends up with whom and who will be heartbroken as the season concludes.
Catch Part 2 of the the medical drama on March 6, 2025.
