Hollywood star and the lead in the Netflix’s comedy series Running Point, Kate Hudson is a self-proclaimed NBA fan. Growing up, Hudson was introduced to the world of sports when she accompanied her parents to various games. The accomplishments and experiences of Jennie Buss, owner of L.A. Lakers, inspired the story of Running Point. Buss revealed that Kate Hudson has always been a sports fan and used to follow her around when she was younger.

Per Variety, Buss said,

‘Kate would just, like, shadow me. I’d take her around the building give her a tour, explain what the Forum Club was, and how we operated the tickets and the box office.’

She went on to add,

“I felt responsible!...But I knew she would understand the craziness that goes on with running a team [for the show].’

In Running Point, Kate Hudson plays a fictionalized version of L.A. Lakers owner, Jeanie Buss. The series follows Isla Gordon, played by Kate Hudson, who is unexpectedly asked to run the Los Angeles Waves, a family-run basketball franchise. The story explores the world of basketball and the business behind running sports teams.

Running Point is a 10-episode Netflix sports comedy series written by Mindy Kaling, David Stassen, and Ike Barinholz. Buss is also an executive producer on the show along with Kaling and Hudson.

As per Time, Mindy Kaling spoke of Hudson and Buss’ connection,

‘…Kate is so iconically L.A. She’s from her own Hollywood dynasty. She has known Jeanie since she was a kid. She has been going to Lakers games since she was little. She is really involved in that L.A. world.’
