Mindy Kaling's sports comedy series, Running Point, debuted on Netflix on February 27.

The story follows the Gordon family, the proud owners of the Los Angeles Waves basketball team. After their President, Cam, is sent to rehab, he makes his sister Isla the new president, much to the dismay of his other two brothers.

While nobody believed Isla could actually improve the team, she managed to get them into the finals after many obstacles. However, in the finale, Isla's team did not win the championship.

Here is a complete breakdown of the Running Point ending.

The Running Point finale finally saw the D-Day, where Isla successfully guided her team into the Championship finals. She had a bumpy road ahead of us, with no family members trusting her and many obstacles on her way.

She managed to retain Travis Bugg by securing a million-dollar deal and bringing in a player from the D-league who had no chance at the game. Throughout the show, Isla proves her worth by handling all the curveballs life throws at her, but she is again presented with an obstacle just before the finals.

She learns about Travis' drug problem right before the finals and makes the difficult decision to let him sit out of the game. She sends him to rehab and plays the game squarely and fairly. With Coach Jay by their side, the team heads into the finals, and when everybody expected the underdog to win, the team does not win.

Isla is visibly heartbroken by this loss, resulting from her efforts to bring the team to this point.

Do Isla and Jay end up together in Running Point?

While Isla faces a professional setback, her personal life is also not great. After she breaks up with her long-time fiancé, Lev, she becomes attracted to Coach Jay. When nobody believed in her, Jay was by her side and helped her understand team dynamics.

But this professional relationship quickly took a turn, and sparks flew between them, which came to a head in the finale. When Isla's Team lost, she was heartbroken to her core because she had given her all to the team. Jay consoled her, saying that The Waves' making it to the finals was a miracle, and the two finally kissed.

While the kiss is evidence that they have feelings for one another, Jay is moving back to Boston to stay close to his kids, making the whole situation messier. It remains to be seen what will become of them, but for now, they don't have much chance of ending up together because of Jay's future plans.

Cam's surprise return and what does it mean for Running Point Season 2?

While everybody thought that Cam believed in her little sister and that is why offered her the President's position, it turns out not. He thought Isla was incompetent to run the team and would likely make no progress, so he would swoop back and claim his position.

However, after Isla made positive progress with the team, he felt threatened and bribed the rehab owner to leave early and reach the team's office to claim his position. With Cam back on the scene, Isla will likely have to fight for her position.

This sets up a very intense story for Running Point Season 2, in which the sibling duo will fight head-on for the team's ownership.
