"Speaking of water, this is no ordinary water feature bakers. This is the fountain of youth. So what do you think bakers? Would you like to turn back the clock to your childhood? Using this fountain of youth as your inspiration, each of you are going to revisit your favorite childhood dessert and you're going to elevate it with your grown-up baker sensibility."
Spring Baking Championship Season 11 Episode 5: Jesse Palmer reveals the "Gift of Immunity" for the next three main heat challenges
The recently released Spring Baking Championship Episode 5 featured a brand-new pre-heat challenge. The show host, Jesse Palmer, explained to the bakers that they had to revisit their childhood to complete the challenge. They were instructed to prepare their favorite childhood dessert, which felt nostalgic for the bakers.
As Jesse explained the fifth episode's pre-heat challenge, he added:
"Here's the fun part: I'm going to tell you right up front what's in your spring magic gift basket. The gift of immunity. So this gift can protect you in any of the next three main heats."
He then told the bakers they had 90 minutes to "spring back into the past" as he filled the chalice from the fountain. After instructing the bakers to create a "modern take on a childhood classic," Jesse drank from the chalice and turned into a little boy.
While hurrying to prepare her pre-heat dessert, Raveena told the cameras that she was making brown butter chocolate chip cookies. She recalled how her grandma used to make those with a chai ganache.
Lisa was making her mom's chocolate cream pie, and Kareem baked a German chocolate cake. Last week's pre-heat challenge winner, Priya, was making her mom's banana fritters.
"My mom is phenomenal at every single thing she does. Baking was definitely one of those things and I'm hoping that I've got her on my side today. She made these banana fritters she'd fry them hot and fresh."
To "elevate" her banana fritters, Spring Baking Championship baker Priya was going to make a hummingbird mousse cake with a caramelized banana sponge at the bottom with a pecan praline crunch layer and pineapple jelly that's settled in the pineapple mousse.
She added that she would make a chocolate nest at the base along with a chocolate feather for garnish.
