Although Iain Armitage's Sheldon Cooper is the center of the Young Sheldon television show, it would have been incomplete without other key characters, notably Lance Barber's George Cooper Sr. Fans recently witnessed him through a dream sequence in Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, provoking interest about the actor's missing scene during the death scene.
Young Sheldon is the prequel to the extremely popular The Big Bang Theory, but this time, it is all about Sheldon's childhood. It also delves into Sheldon's relationship with his family, including his father, George, his religious mother, Mary, and his siblings, Georgie and Missy, and his grandmother.
As highlighted earlier, George Cooper Sr. recently appeared in George's dream. Yet, even as one of the prime characters, Baber didn't show up at the shooting spots during filming the critical moment from Young Sheldon.
Why? Lance Barber deliberately avoided being on set because he felt that being there would cause the cast to sink deeper into the grief of losing George.
As a result, his absence optimized the cast members' feelings. Since it happened in Young Sheldon's finale, George's death has become one of the most tragic farewells in the history of the show.
Keep reading to discover more about George and what Lance Barber had to say regarding his decision.
Why was Lance Barber absent during the filming of George's death in Young Sheldon?

As seen in the Young Sheldon finale, the Cooper family is informed about George's demise through his friends, but fans never saw his death scene. This means that he died off-screen, and there was a reason behind this major decision.
As mentioned above, Lance Barber decided to remain absent from the sets to allow his co-stars to feel the loss. During his interview with TVLine, the actor said:
"I was there earlier that day, but I deliberately was not there. I thought my absence would be helpful for the actors, and appropriate for that moment."
Barber continued:
"And I wanted to wait and see it on the screen with everybody else. I also haven’t watched the final episode because I’d like to see it for the first time on screen."
Even though George is no more, he remains a beloved character from The Big Bang Theory universe. George was a classic Texan man who loved football, beer, and spending time with his family.
While he wasn't as intellectually gifted as Sheldon, he put in great efforts to understand his son and strengthen their bond. From financial struggles to family issues, George Cooper Sr. has faced them all.

Lance Barber's role in Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage
Fans eagerly waited to see Lance Barber reprising his role in Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, and the episode has finally come out. However, George's return isn't a supernatural revival, as he only appears in his son's dream.
Since George died in Young Sheldon, Georgie has been feeling low and is finding parenthood a little challenging. So, to ease his stress, George Cooper Sr. hugs his son in a dream, letting Georgie know that he still loves him.
Per USA Today, Lance Barber talked about this emotional experience and said:
"Some of the people watching the scenes were visually emotional seeing me on that kitchen set. This is a beloved character. It was fun to feel those feels and be so appreciated, even in the sadness."
When Barber saw a scene where George's grave is highlighted, he described the experience as watching "the Ghost of Christmas Future watching that scene". The Young Sheldon sequel is gaining positive reactions from fans, and lately, there have been reports about another spin-off focusing on the original The Big Bang Theory characters.
