MCU’s Daredevil: Born Again will premiere on March 4, 2025, on Disney+. With the original series being a superhit, the show has become one of the most highly anticipated shows of the year.

The director duo, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorehead, who refer to themselves as fans of the Netflix Daredevil series, have also watched it to research and study for the new show. In a recent interview with Collider, they talked about the pressure to do better and not let the fans and themselves down. They also revealed that they studied a particular fight scene from Daredevil season 3. Justin Benson said:

"Something that’s actually really interesting, and I never thought about this way, but you know the famous oner in the prison in Season 3? We've studied that oner just to learn from it as filmmakers in general. It's so interesting to go from studying that and then being, rightfully so, obligated to take your swing at your attempt at it. It was a really special experience."

The show focuses on Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock, who concentrates on his personal life after giving up on the vigilante activities. However, when Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk joins the run for the mayor of New York, both of their pasts catch up to them.

More on this in our story.

Daredevil: Born Again directors studied the original show

The series faced many challenges, such as the Hollywood strikes and the creative hiccup that changed the directors and showrunners midway through production. After the creative revamp, Dario Scardapane was added as a showrunner.

Daredevil: Born Again directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have also directed episodes of the MCU's Moon Knight and were lead directors for Loki Season 2. Therefore, they were acquainted with the workings of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and as Daredevil fans themselves, they didn’t want to ruin the show but make it better.

In the same Collider interview, Aaron Moorehead said:

"It was one of those things where we had to explore our boundaries in Moon Knight, but now we kind of knew them and were able to still create within them and felt really good about that. So with Daredevil, really, the apprehension was that we love the original show so much."

He continued,

"We just didn't really want to let everyone down, but we really didn't want to let ourselves down because we love that show. It would be ruining something that we love if it didn't work for us."

As previously mentioned, they studied the prison fight scene from Season 3, Episode 4, titled Blindsided, which was shot in a single take.

In a 2018 interview with Vulture, the director of the episode, Alex Garcia Lopez, recalled how he came to think about the scene as a oner. He said:

"I got the script on the first day, and I came upon, like, page 11 or whatever it was, and it started to describe this amazing sequence. I just kept reading it and it just kept yelling at me, This should be a oner. So I finished the script and I literally called Erik, the showrunner, and I was like, ‘Mate, I think we have an incredible chance here to do a fantastic oner."

The episode is regarded as one of the best in Netflix's Daredevil series.
