Reacher Season 3 has officially wrapped up, and honestly, the finale gave us everything we could ask for. It had all the thrills and action we deserved. And the conclusion was satisfying too.
Susan Duffy successfully managed to save Teresa. Villanueva made it back to his wife (with flowers in hand). Reacher finally got his revenge. Quinn is dead, and we hope he remains so.
Neagley has for now parted ways with Reacher. But with a spinoff on the horizon, we all know we will see her soon again.
Now that Season 3 is behind us, the big question is what’s next? Season 4 is definitely happening, but Amazon is yet to reveal which one of Lee Child’s novels will be adapted this time.
There are over 25 books in the Reacher series. So there’s no shortage of great options. But if you ask the cast? They already have some favorites in mind!
So let’s take a look at which books they’d love to see adapted next.
Reacher: Neagley would love to be back again
Each season was based on one of the Reacher books. The third season of Reacher was based on Persuader. Season 1 and Season 2 adapted Killing Floor and Bad Luck and Trouble, respectively.
So far Amazon hasn’t confirmed which Reacher book will be the foundation for Season 4. But that hasn’t stopped fans and the cast from sharing their guesses and favorites. And one of those favorites is Without Fail.
Maria Sten plays Frances Neagley on the show. She told Men’s Journal that her favorite Reacher book is Without Fail. She said,
"My favorite book is—and they'll probably never do it—but it's Without Fail."
She added,
"I would really love Neagley to pop back on Reacher to do that one."
The novel was published in April 2002. It is about saving the vice president's life, who has been getting threats over letters. Reacher teams up with Neagley to find out who has been threatening the vice president’s life.
Neagley is a major part of that story. So her character would almost certainly appear in the adaptation. And as for whether Maria Sten would return for it? She’s all in!
Also, we've got her spinoff to look forward to!
Alan Ritchson's pick
Before we get into Alan Ritchson's favorite, what about Reacher’s creator, Lee Child himself?
During an interview with Business Insider, Child pointed to The Midnight Line as the work he is proudest of. This novel is the 22nd in the series. It was released eight years ago and takes on the opioid crisis.
But would a book from nearly a decade ago still be relevant? Alan Ritchson certainly thinks so. He explained,
"[Lee Child] started writing these in the ’90s. He’s very progressive in these books and to watch the conversation change over time is a lot of fun. It’d be fun to tackle a more modern story."
As for his personal favorite? It's Die Trying. This is the second Reacher novel that was published in July 1998. Ritchson would love to see it brought to life on screen.
He told Men’s Journal:
"A lot of people who really want to do Without Fail! My favorite book is Die Trying. I would love to see that happen. And so far, there's been a lot of discussion about whether or not we should or should not. I guess we'll see what the future holds. I'll find a way."
So while Ritchson is hoping to convince the team to adapt Die Trying and Lee Child is backing The Midnight Line, it remains to be seen which novel will actually make it to our screens.
No official announcements have been made as of now. But we can be sure of one thing. Whichever book they choose, Reacher Season 4 will be another insane ride.
